That’s a wrap on filming The Dancer & The Tyrant!

After months of planning, our cast and crew came together at the incredible Buckland Estate in Northam to bring this original Western Australian fantasy short film to life.

The shoot may be finished, but the film’s journey is only just beginning. Next comes editing, sound design, visual effects, music and everything else needed to prepare the film for its release in 2027.

We can’t wait to begin sharing more from behind the scenes.

We’re excited to officially introduce Floeur Alder as The Dancer in The Dancer & The Tyrant.

Floeur is an acclaimed Australian contemporary dancer, choreographer and educator whose career has been shaped by an extraordinary dance lineage, immense resilience and a unique artistic voice.

The daughter of Australian ballet luminaries Lucette Aldous AC and Alan Alder, Floeur grew up immersed in the world of dance before training extensively at WAAPA and forging her own career as an independent contemporary dance artist, performer and choreographer.

At the age of 22, Floeur survived a brutal random knife attack that nearly ended both her life and her career. Her determination to return to dance led to an extraordinary journey of rehabilitation and artistic reclamation, eventually building a celebrated career that has included work with Tasdance, STRUT Dance, Ochre Contemporary Dance Company and NT Dance Company.

Floeur is also the subject of the feature documentary Pointe: Dancing on a Knife’s Edge.

Directed by Dawn Jackson and filmed over nearly a decade, Pointe follows Floeur’s deeply personal journey through trauma, the complicated legacy of growing up as the daughter of two celebrated dancers, and her search for peace, identity and a renewed relationship with dance and the natural world.

The documentary was distributed by HALO Films, with executive producer Ian Hale, who is also supporting The Dancer & The Tyrant.

We’re incredibly excited to have an artist with Floeur’s experience, resilience, physical storytelling ability and unique artistic voice taking on the role of The Dancer.

We're looking for someone who can help create and source approximately four costumes that bring the film's fantasy world to life, including costumes for our two lead characters.

CAST ANNOUNCEMENT

Full Heart Films is proud to announce that Nick Britton will be playing The Tyrant in our upcoming fantasy short film, The Dancer and The Tyrant.

Nick brings an incredible depth of experience to the project, with acting credits including Kid Snow (2024), He Ain't Heavy (2024), Son of a Gun (2014), Castaway (2010), and most recently For the Love of Gold (2026).

Beyond his work as an actor, Nick is also an accomplished filmmaker, having written, directed and produced projects including Third-World Solution, Roundabouts, and Kick Start.

When we began looking for someone to portray The Tyrant, we needed an actor who could command the screen with presence alone. The role contains very little dialogue and relies heavily on physical performance, emotional intensity, and subtle character work. After seeing Nick's performances, particularly in Kid Snow, we knew he was someone capable of bringing exactly that to the role.

We're incredibly excited to have him join the team and can't wait to see what he brings to this character.
