ZAF, SYNGENTA BRACE FOR 2026/2027 FARMING SEASON
The Zambia Air Force (ZAF) and Syngenta Zambia are stepping up preparations for the 2026/2027 farming season, with a focus on climate resilience and protecting crop yields amid forecasts of possible below-normal rainfall.
ZAF Commander, Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni, says the two institutions must strengthen cooperation in climate-smart agriculture, farmer training, crop monitoring and modern farming technologies.
Lt Gen Nyoni says early planning and knowledge sharing will be critical in mitigating climate-related risks and safeguarding agricultural productivity.
Speaking when Syngenta Zambia Managing Director for East and Southern Africa, Given Mudenda, paid a courtesy call on him at Air Force Headquarters, Lt Gen Nyoni described Syngenta as a trusted partner in supporting agricultural productivity and national food security.
Mr Mudenda says Syngenta will support ZAF with agronomy, farmer training, equipment calibration and field monitoring.
He says the company will also promote biological products aimed at helping farmers manage moisture stress, high temperatures and early-season pest pressure associated with anticipated El Niño conditions.
The two institutions are building on their collaboration during the 2025/2026 farming season to strengthen crop production and resilience.
