With the Revelation Film Festival on once again in Perth bigger and better than ever. I just wanted to take a moment to remember its humble beginnings in the Back Room of Greenwich.
It was always such a pleasure dealing with Richard Sowada every year and hearing what amazing cult classic films he had in his program. I specifically remember seeing Wild Angels and Touch of Evil lying on the bean bags drinking cocktails!
This is from their website and also mentions REVelation Magazine as the early naming sponsor of the Festival.
"Revelation commenced its formal life in 1997 in the basement back room of the Greenwich Club , Perth's legendary jazz venue.
Just finally, although no longer associated in anything more than spirit, we must acknowledge our founding sponsors REVelation Magazine and its founder Peter Collins. As purveyors of counter and youth culture, REVelation Magazine maintained an energy and powerful connection with its readership, making it one of the country's most progressive publications."
I also want to acknowledge the REVelation Magazine crew and their lasting impact on counter and youth culture in Perth and around the world. They were a big inspiration for us at Greenwich and we were very happy to be their "Club House" in the early days. Cheers to you Peter Collins, David Welch, Monty Sangar, the late Bay Rigby, Leroy Beeti, et al.
