His Maj Fringe Hub

His Maj Fringe Hub A dynamic season of comedy, cabaret, magic and music as part of Fringe World, all in air-conditioned comfort.

The iconic His Majesty’s Theatre will be bursting with activity in February for Fringe World with the launch of`17 dynamic shows – almost 100 performances – and the unveiling of a new pop-up venue. There is seriously something for everyone with a focus on:

- Cabaret: tributes to the music and stories of Bob Dylan, The Carpenters, Peter Allen, Nancy Sinatra and the 60s and 70s

- Magic: featuring

the winner of Sweden’s Got Talent and Best Magic show at last year’s Adelaide Fringe, Minor Miracles is major talent; with over 20 million social media hits it’s easy to see why Dom Chambers has become the revolutionary new king of Australian magic – come see RanDom for proof; and acclaimed local magician Pierre Ulric returns with a brand new show, Confessions of a Magician.

- Comedy: sell-out hit show Comma Sutra returns, and The Birds And The Beats will entertain with taboo tackling laughs.

- New works by local talent: featuring the best of Perth’s up-and-coming and established talent: renowned Jazz musician Trevor Gibson presents The Songwriter; Holland Street Productions presents What Doesn’t Kill You [Blah Blah] Stronger; Megan Hunter presents Mavis (And Other Broken Objects); and Balloon Head Theatre presents Miss Westralia, telling the story of Beryl Mills of Geraldton, the very first Miss Australia winner. Producer Neville Sice said the venue will host five shows nightly throughout the whole of Fringe World at 6pm, 7.30pm and 9pm, with most shows changing weekly.

“Our place within Fringe is to offer quality shows in a comfortable environment – we’re proudly a tent-free zone!” he said.

“Ace’s Cabaret – Downstairs at The Maj provides seating at tables, a well stocked bar, and all-important air-conditioning, all set in a stylish environment.”

Mr Sice also announced the launch of pop-up venue King’s Lair, named in honour of Ivan King OAM.

“As creator of Perth’s Museum of Performing Arts, Ivan has documented the stories of our performing arts history in over 50 boutique exhibitions at His Majesty’s Theatre. Last year he was awarded the Order of Australia for services to the performing arts as an historian and archivist. He is an extremely deserving recipient to have a venue named in his honour,” Mr Sice said. King’s Lair will be located in a basement room not accessible to the public until now. The pathway to King’s Lair is part of the charm – audiences will walk through historic show memorabilia curated by its namesake. A new private bar specifically for Fringe audiences will be installed. His Maj Gala (two shows) – 6pm and 8pm on Saturday 27 January
Media are invited to either of two 60-minute shows featuring a sampling of acts from across the season. Tickets are limited so secure your seats asap by RSVPing to publicist [email protected]
