Hey everyone, here is the Wardarnji Festival film which literally made me cry both times I watched it as I'm so proud of my Noongar people and this festival and the filmmaker Calogero Ricciardello has captured both so beautifully. It runs for 16mins and there is a shorter version but really wanted to share this with you all. Feel free to share and if you haven't had a chance to come to the festival, make sure you come next year. Thanks to the City of Fremantle for their faith in me and all the elders, dancers, storytellers, volunteers, audience and everyone who was involved in Wardarnji who made the very first ever evening Wardarnji focusing purely on the corroboree who made the night so special as you can see here x

We are proud to announce that co-host of this years Wardarnji Festival is Kylie Farmer. Kylie is Nyoongar woman who is an experienced actress and presenter (many people recognise her from Waabiny Time) and has been involved in Nyoongar culture and in particular language for many years. Please take the time to watch her TedX Talk and come down to festival to meet her and hear the beautiful way she speaks Nyoongar language, being one of the only young people to speak fluent. This year Wardarnji has changed to the time of 6pm and the fires will be lit and ready for a special corroboree under the stars. Put the 31st of October into your diary and come down early with your picnic rugs to get a good spot around the massive sand art circle designed especially for the ceremony celebrating Nyoongar dance, song and storytelling.

Performing at WARDARNJI Festival this year are MADJITIL MOORNA CHOIR
This unique community choir sings Aboriginal songs, led by award-winning Aboriginal performers. They sing for better understanding, challenging old stereotypes as people from all backgrounds open their ears and hearts to explore Aboriginal culture, through song and story.
Since 2006 the choir has performed throughout the Perth Metro area and in the East Kimberley. Audience participation is encouraged. Songs include contemporary and traditional songs, many in Aboriginal languages, including the Noongar language of the South West of WA.
The group practises on Monday nights in Forrestfield WA in an inclusive and safe space. All voices accepted. The learning of songs is helped by CDs and lots of encouragement. Everyone is welcome to come and sing with Madjitil Moorna, joining performances when ready!
So come down and hear the beautiful voices filling the Fremantle Arts Centre on the 8th November

Djiripin to hear IAN WILKES singing for the 1st time his own acoustic set at WARDARNJI FESTIVAL, Ian has an amazing presence and his songs are original with his Noongar culture infused throughout it. Not only is he singing he is dancing with his group of young men the NOONKAR DANCERS.
Ian Wilkes was taught dance from a very young age. From the moment he could walk he was shown the traditional noongah moves by his elder brothers, cousins, uncles and father.
At the age of 15 Ian travelled to South Korea Promoting the Aboriginal Culture of Australia.
Performing at the Yo Pe Fe youth festival, Nami Island.
After graduating high school he went on to study Aboriginal theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2008.
From 2009-2010 Ian performed with the Wadumbah Aboriginal dance group learning different skills in dance, music and storytelling.
Ian also travelled to the USA in with fellow performer and Friend, Phillip Walley-Stack. Performing at the Springville Folk Festival and the Bountiful Summer Festival in Utah, USA. This involved countries from all over the world to come together and showcase traditional dance. Other international travels include South Africa with the AFL and Singapore with the Australian high commission.
He has since been involved with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, becoming a regular performer in many different shows.
Ian now works as an actor and dancer around Western Australia. He has begun his own journey to teach his art and skills to the younger generation of kids by starting his family noongah dance group, NOONKAR dancers.
Don't miss out 8th November 2014 at the Fremantle Arts Centre 12 to 5pm.

Performing again this year at WARDARNJI FESTIVAL for our biggest corroboree in Perth each year is WADUMBAH. One of the most exciting performing groups in the country who have performed thousands of times including overseas. Leading this group is Noongar man James T Webb, whose Aboriginal name is Gumbiardi, established Wadumbah in 1995. The name Wadumbah comes from the Walmatjerri people from where James grew up around Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberly. It means 'Big Flood Waters!' and it refers to when the rain buckets down during the wet season in the north, filling up the rivers which flow in a fury, full and ready to burst their banks, towards the Indian Ocean. At any given time there are four or five dancers in the group including his sons and grandchildren and James provides the magical didjeridoo playing, a haunting, rising and falling dynamic that perfectly mirrors the dramatic highs and lows of the dance as the story unfolds. Wadumbah always bring something special to the festival and the corroboree and we are so excited to see them at Wardarnji again this year!!!!!

Rocking it out at WARDARNJI FESTIVAL this year areThe Dulcitones
The Dulcitones are Australia’s first male Indigenous Motown quartet and are setting the bar for performance acts all around Australia. The brothers Daniel & Luke Riches, Brian ‘Bryte’ Lloyd and Clay Petera bring together their varied backgrounds and incorporate them into a time travelling electric performance.
They formed in early 2013 by performer and producer Candice Lorrae of sister group, The Merindas. The concept was to form a group of talented Indigenous male artists to perform Motown’s greatest hits while forging their own sound and reputation as solid performers.
The group draws upon their experience in Hip Hop, Church Groups, Rock, Choir and Musical Theatre to create sensational performances and unforgettable shows. They are an ambitious group and deeply proud of their heritage. There is only one way for these boys and it’s up!
