I am so grateful to have won the Creative Talent award at the Southern Aboriginal Corporation NAIDOC Ball.

As you know I couldn’t attend this year. It meant so much to me, to have my Grandparents there & for my Grandmother to accept the award on my behalf.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey. I’m incredibly honoured!!

I was invited to attend the Albany Southern Aboriginal Corporations’s (SAC) NAIDOC Ball which is being held tonight, as I was a finalist for an award. Sadly, I couldn’t make it because my baby suddenly became really unwell. I was at the children’s hospital yesterday until early hours this morning. I was so excited and looking forward to attending the ball, I paid for accomodation and even bought a new dress! Although I would have loved to attend this special occasion, there was nowhere else I needed to be other than at home with my sick baby.

So my point is….

Some days, being a small business owner & Artist doesn’t always look like, a perfectly organised space or uninterrupted hours of creating.

For me instead it looks like holding my sick baby, while meeting a few deadlines, one hand comforting while the other creating.

Motherhood doesn’t stop for business and business doesn’t always pause for motherhood either. So you learn to do both the best you possibly can with love, patience & determination.

To every mum chasing a dream while wiping noses, sleep deprived, cuddling sick little ones and somehow still showing up…. You are incredible!!

There is something truly powerful in the strength of a mother’s love & the resilience in a woman that is building something of her own.

Behind every finished piece is a story. That people don’t always see. Today, this is mine 🫶🏽

We are proud to unveil Southern Aboriginal Corporation's official artwork, Walking Beside Community, commissioned to become the enduring visual identity of SAC.

This beautiful artwork, created by local Aboriginal artist Rickesha Burdett, will be proudly featured across all SAC offices, publications, marketing, digital platforms, signage, uniforms, promotional materials and corporate collateral. It represents who we are, our values and our commitment to the communities we serve.

The artwork tells a powerful story of connection to community and Country. The footprints honour the Menang people and their continuing connection to the Kalgan River, symbolising generations walking beside one another on Noongar Boodja.

The large community circle represents Southern Aboriginal Corporation and our staff, while the surrounding circles represent the families, communities and programs we support every day. The U-shaped symbols depict people coming together, with the surrounding patterns reflecting the beauty and strength of Noongar Country.

For more than 40 years, SAC has walked alongside Aboriginal people, strengthening families, creating opportunities and supporting communities across the Great Southern, South West and Lower Wheatbelt. This artwork beautifully captures that journey and will continue to tell our story wherever the SAC name is seen.

What an absolute privilege it was to spend the morning with the incredible ladies in the Maali Deadly Yorgas Group. I delivered my first ever Women in Business workshop 💛

Today’s session was all about women in business. I shared my personal journey of starting Makuru Designs, the highs, the lows and everything I’ve learnt along the way.

We had some deadly yarns, shared ideas, asked questions, and talked about turning business ideas into a reality. I shared some tips around getting started, running a business, pricing work or services and building a business to be proud of.

There is something really special about women supporting, encouraging and inspiring one another.

A huge thank you to the Maali Deadly Yorgas for having me today! I truly appreciate the opportunity to share my story and experiences with you all and can’t wait to see where your business journeys take you all ❤️
