It is that time of the year again, time to get out the paint brushes with Camellias flowering through the garden. It is hard to resist them.

We have a meeting on 1st August with a members only market day stall so bring along your unwanted paints and porcelain to sell.
Photos show several jewel boxes by Heather Tailor each set with a gemstone. The lustre and gold rectangular box is 15cm and features a large Turquoise cabochon. The green 10cm round box with gold relief work is set with a flat green sea sediment stone and the pink one has freeform piece of rose quartz and features platinum relief work. The 10cm box in violet and ruby has been set with a vintage rhinestone brooch that lost its pin.

Another exquisite hand painted piece by one of our members, Lucy Bertilone. A 'fan shaped' lidded box painted in Japanese style featuring Cherry Blossom. The rich burgundy background has been applied first using the grounding technique. The flowers are hand painted in delicate shades of pink and the final firing the ridges of the box precisely outlined in bright liquid gold. As you can see by the reflections, the overall result is a high glazed finish.

Members, don't miss our meeting this Saturday 6th June. Our demonstrator will be Lucy Bertilone showing her remarkable Mixed Media techniques. Her porcelain art is always new and innovative. The Flamenco dancers are from our 2010 exhibition and feature lustre and detailed gold work. The framed tile features lustre and metallic work and the Waterlily vase with a lustred background dates to 2016.

A new display of porcelain art from the Porcelain Artists of Western Australia has been installed in the W.A. Museum Innovations Gallery. Pieces by Anne Blake, Judith Standing, Lucy Bertilone, Christine Munro, Heather Tailor, Trish Bunney, Megan Evans and Elbia Sywestrzak.

Members, don't miss our next meeting on 6th June. Our demonstrator will be Lucy Bertilone talking about Mixed Media Techniques. Lucy is an expert in using many different techniques to create her porcelain art and these two Iceland Poppy vases include lustre, china paint, white raised paste and metallics. The white paste has been used as an overlay on the petals and dotted onto the leaves to give texture. The buds in the background are metallic colours. Both vases are 17cm and the poppy design encircles the entire piece so they can be viewed at different angles.

At our next meeting in June our focus will be on Mixed Media Techniques. This new and innovative style of porcelain art emerged in the 1980s when new products became available. It involves using multiple techniques and materials that require different firing temperatures to produce the finished result. This large 30cm Dragonfly Vase by Heather Tailor features relief work, gold, lustres and collage, painted in 2008.
