SAVA presents: Te Hononga (Connection)
A group art exhibition bringing together four Māori artists from across Aotearoa, now living in Western Australia.

“Across the seas and on different whenua, we have come together through art, carrying with us the stories and creative expression passed down through our tūpuna. From our whenua to our wairua, art becomes a way of remembering where we come from, expressing who we are, and connecting us to one another.

Te Hononga speaks to the relationships that bind us. To our whakapapa, our culture, our whenua, and to each other. For Māori living away from Aotearoa, these connections can become even more meaningful.

This exhibition is an opportunity for our Māori community in Western Australia to come together, share stories, experience art, have a kai, and connect.

He waka eke noa, we are all in this together.”

Jed is a Perth-based photographer and filmmaker whose work explores cinematic storytelling through portraiture and documentary imagery.
His passion for photography began with street photography, and this exhibition includes a selection of those works alongside his more conceptual practice.

‘Common Thief’ a solo exhibition By Jordan Rush

‘Common Thief’ explores the forces that quietly steal from us.
Not our possessions, but our vitality, agency, and capacity to fully exist.
Throughout the exhibition, hands holding guns become metaphors for the personal, systemic, and governmental pressures that seek to extinguish our inner light.
Opposing them are lighters.
Humble objects that symbolise our spirit, resilience, and the spark of our humanity.
The work asks what is taken from us every day by fear, oppression, conformity, and despair, while insisting that our light is never beyond recovery.
Each act of relighting ourselves becomes an act of resistance.
Every time we endure darkness and choose to ignite again, our light returns stronger, carrying the wisdom of survival and renewed personal potential.

Is a currently Perth based artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A self-taught multidisciplinary creative, I express myself through painting, photography, movement, and words.
Guided by curiosity and intuition, I explore the connection between emotion, memory, and the human experience.

Lucas Leo Catalano - Lucas Leo Catalano

(b.1985) Is a photographer of mixed heritage based between Indonesia, Italy, and Australia. Working on documentary projects that remain open to interpretation and figurative conclusions, while still making clear reference to current affairs and photography’s unique relationship to reality. First photographing during teenage years to then intern at the photojournalism agency GraffitiPress (2010), followed by a masters degree in Visual Communications at the Istituto Europeo di Design (2013). Graduating into spot and community news photography in South East Asia (2015) until starting a full-time contemporary arts practice (2020). Shortlisted at the Australian Photocollective Documentary Awards, Australasian
Photobook Dummy Awards, and Contemporary Landscapes in Photograpy Prize. Nominated for the Sovereign Asian Arts Fund and Harry Gruyaert’s Trieste Photofestival grant.
