This year’s Guildford Medieval Fayre
It was lovely to see so many familiar faces return to The Painted Lady’s tent, and just as wonderful to meet so many new friendly faces throughout the day this year. Thank you to every person who stopped for a chat, wandered through our space, joined us in The Wandering Workshop, or took home a Potions Craft Kit.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was seeing my young mentors faces light up as their teachers they had invited arrived to visit our space. It was so incredibly heartwarming that those wonderful humans actually showed up on their day off to support their student's. My Daughter Eva, friend Evelyn, and my youngest little mentor (and son) Leo were ecstatic to have the opportunity to “teach their teachers.” - oh how the turns tabled" 😅.

I honestly do not think there will ever be enough words to express my gratitude for the care those teachers showed. They did more than simply attend an event. They demonstrated to these children that they are important, valued, capable, and worth showing up for. They supported their confidence, their sense of agency, and their belief in themselves in such a meaningful way.

That is exactly what The Painted Lady is about. Creativity, connection, building confidence, imagination, and celebrating people for who they are.

I also believe acknowledgement, encouragement, and celebrating effort matters deeply, especially for children developing their sense of self. If you purchased a Wandering Workshop experience or Potions Craft Kit and noticed a little character sticker saying it was “handmade by” one of our young mentors, that means your purchase directly supported and celebrated their hard work too. Those kits were carefully and thoughtfully packed with so much pride and excitement. For every kit or experience sold, a percentage of your purchase was distributed between the young mentors’.
I am so incredibly grateful for the community’s support and extremely proud of my little team. Thank you to our wonderful community and friends of the painted lady!

Hi everyone!

I just quickly wanted to pop on here and let you know that email replies will be a little slower over the next week. Not only is the Fayre coming up very soon, but I am also currently recovering from a minor surgery.

I’m doing well and I’m so excited to see you all at the Guildford Medieval Fayre on the 17th of May.

If you have anything super urgent, please, please, please don’t hesitate to contact me through Facebook Messenger. The notification sound is much louder on Messenger, than my email notification sound gor dome reason 😅.

I’ve had my lovely young mentors helping me on the weekends getting everything ready for the magical day. I’m still hoping for a few more dragons to hatch in time for the Fayre, and a couple more Dragonlings to be ready for adoption, but we already have the sweetest little group of Dragonlings excited to meet their new Dragonwards.

I’m also rather proud of our costumes this year. As always, everything you see is handcrafted by me, and supplies are sourced locally from small businesses wherever possible.

For the next few days I’ll be taking things slowly and resting properly so I’m fully energised and ready to greet and chat with all your friendly faces at the Fayre.

Thank you, The Painted Lady's team and I are so excited!

❤️ Ainsleigh

Introducing our Young Mentors
This year, The Painted Lady’s Wandering Workshop of Magic is returning with a new mini experience, and you may notice something a little extra special…

Some of the guiding hands you meet won’t just be from me (a grown up).

This year, we will have two new team members joining us as our Young Mentors.

Carefully supported and encouraged, our Young Mentors help welcome, guide, and share their creativity alongside your magical little ones. These girls have worked with me and together for years. They are kind, brilliantly creative, and humbly confident in their own unique ways. Most importantly, they naturally embody The Painted Lady’s core values.

At The Painted Lady, we believe that magic doesn’t begin at a certain age. It already exists within each person.

Through my years of experience, I’ve learnt that by creating space for young people to step into gentle leadership, we nurture:
Confidence
Self-belief
Creativity
Connection
Develop foundations for respectful communication

And just as importantly, we show them that their voice, their ideas, and their presence matter, and hold so much value.

You can meet these incredible Young Mentors inside the Wandering Workshop in The Painted Lady’s tent at the Guildford Medieval Fayre this May. They will be supporting our wand making experience, offering gentle guidance, and sharing in the magic.

While adult team members will always be present to support our young mentors, we kindly ask that any visitors older than our mentors allow the Young Mentors to initiate conversation first. This helps us teach and maintain safe, respectful communication boundaries for young people.

While I’ve been quietly preparing for this year’s Guildford Medieval Fayre, I decided I really wanted to focus more on what The Painted Lady is all about.
This year, our space will focus a little more on The Painted Lady's service delivery and core ethos; Connection, skill building (practical) positive mindsets, creativity... and of course, magic.

Some things you can find on the day:
• Dragonlings adoptions: Brew the Dragonstone Potion and be matched with your Dragonling. Thanks to the help of our brilliantly clever explorers, two new species will be part of this year’s clutch!

• Baby Dragons: prefer a pocket size little dragon friend instead? A small batch of Baby Dragons, will be ready to adopt on the day too.

• Potions Craft Kits: Pre-packed and ready to take home. No Potions Cart this year, a slight changr to allow me to focus on supporting this year's Wandering Workshop experience. (for "Friends of The Painted Lady" individual re-supplies available - feel free to drop a comment or DM me to tell me the ingredients you need so I can make sure I definitely have it on the day)

• The Painted Lady’s Wandering Workshop of Magic returns: Guests will be warmly welcomed into The Painted Lady’s Wand Making Experience (Beginner): A gentle, meaningful experience centered around self-belief and connection. All ages are welcome.

• And many more trinkets and treasures to discover on the day.

As always, you are welcome to simply step inside our tent, experience the space, explore my handmade work, have a chat. There is never any expectation to purchase. The Painted Lady has always been about creating inclusive spaces, connection.

I’m really looking forward to being part of the Guildford Medieval Fayre again this year.

A Little Side Quest

A couple of weeks ago while I was doing a bit of gardening, suddenly I was inspired! There is a beautiful tree in my garden that both my children and I is definitely our favourite spot to play. Not only does it provide such a whimsical shaded space for playing outdoors, but this little corner is absolutely the sort of place where fairies and other magical creatures live.

I accepted the side quest. So over the past couple of weeks, I have been building a whimsical set of furniture that we can both use and share with the fairies beneath the lush canopy this beautiful tree creates, using entirely recycled materials. A set of old chairs that were meant to be discarded and an old cable spool became the bones of this structure. Everything has been created by hand using completely recycled materials.

I challenged myself with this one. Most people who know me, know that my most comfortable style is observational drawing and painting. I love working using things that already exist as reference, probably because it cuts down the time I would normally spend weeks planning concept art before starting a project.

This time I did the opposite. I had a rough idea, picked up a brush, and painted straight from imagination. Creating a little scene that feels magical. I also utilised my multidisciplinary skillset to create depth by adding 3D elements into the scene… oh and it glows in the dark.

The pieces are still a work in progress, but for now I need to shift my complete focus toward preparing for this year’s Guildford Medieval Fayre on May 17. Stay tuned for updates about what's happening at The Painted Lady’s Tent this year!

The 2026 Guildford Medieval Fayre dress has officially begun.
Before the “good fabric” is touched, there is always a test.
Old curtains first.
Pattern adjustments, likely. Plenty of deep dragon breaths ahead of me.

Will it become what I drafted? Hopefully, but I am committed to creating something that will be magical.

*This is not sponsored. I just really believe in sharing good creative resources when I find them.

This year I ordered my fabric from www.fabricwholesaledirect.com

The descriptions were accurate, the quality absolutley outstanding, and the shipping from the USA to little old Perth Western Australia was surprisingly lightning fast! I hope you are sitting for this bit...Even with postage; It was more affordable than sourcing locally.

I will 1000% be ordering from them again.
Now… back to the sewing table.
The Fayre approaches!

And if you love your sewing, and haven't discovered them yet. I highly reccomend checking out

🧚‍♀️The Painted Lady was created with intention and care.

Markets, fayres, and festivals can be wonderful places, but they can also feel overwhelming.
Many people hesitate to step into a stall because they worry they’ll feel pressured to purchase something.

At The Painted Lady, that pressure does not exist.

You are always welcome to enter the space, explore handmade offerings, ask questions, chat, or simply pause for a moment.
There is never an expectation to buy.

Connection, curiosity, and kindness are what matter most here.

The Painted Lady is not built on sales alone.
It is built on values.
Inclusive community.
Wellbeing and self care.
Creativity, imagination, and gentle magic woven into handcrafted work.

Your presence is enough.
Your kindness is a gift.
You are welcome here, exactly as you are.
