I was going to be sharing a Psytrance track today but in true Chameleon fashion here's something entirely different.

A sneaky insight into the hidden world of musical communication

In late Winter 2024 a group of elite South West Musicians ( Mark Gretton, Marie Limondin, Adam Grok Music, Matthew Bracknell, Tyson Addy) got together in a private studio session to explore concepts of jamming (improvising) around written songs.

This is a simple track I wrote called 'Night Gardener' - It's only the second time this group of musicians heard it so what you are hearing is their 'in the moment' interpretation of the song with no direction from the writer other than the non-verbal cues and signals musicians give each other.

I loved the loose shuffling trip-hop feel that Mark brought on drums, fortified by Matt Bracknell's percussion. The saxophone and violin organically filled in the gaps. Whilst I'm still not too confident with my singing it was a wonderful experience to be supported by such grade-A musos and feel my song come to life in this way.

This event was the latest in a series of loose workshops I've held called 'JAMOLOGY'. All about bringing into the light the things that are going through musician's heads as they interact over improvisations.

I'll be sharing more from these sessions in the coming weeks.

Loving getting my Harlequin Chameleon online presence in order!
I’ve had tracks erratically spread over Bandcamp, Soundcloud and Spotify for too long now and am proud to finally have some consistency for listeners to enjoy my music on their preferred platform.
Of course, if you’re a legend you’ll head to Bandcamp regardless and fling me some pocket money for my labours.

Spotify has yet to provide me with a chocolate milk’s worth for my tracks whereas Bandcamp actually paid for the mastering and release costs of my last Album plus a bit. In other words, paying me on Bandcamp directly allows me to deliver higher audio quality to you!

At the moment it's all Psytrance but I've got sweet downtempo surprises coming up. Grab yourself a sonic snack!

The visuals are made from altered footage from southwest Western Australia blended in with original art by Jamsimosa (my brother Simon).

I've decided to keep all my psychedelic electronica under Harlequin Chameleon by the way - both uptempo and downtempo.

Strange thought for the day.

Sleep Token are pretty much the band version of the Dune movies

Long dramatic droney bits interspersed by occasional pummelling action.

semi blatant manipulation of the masses via quasi-religious symbology. ‘Worship me’ vibes.

A bit of tortured angsty love interest for extra hooky favour.

Am I onto something here?

I love the Dune movies and kinda dig sleep token by the way. I think both are an example of serious commitment to serious art mixed with a bit of savvy on how to make it palatable on a broad scale.

Happy to announce I'm offering Guitar/Bass lessons again.
In person in the Albany/Denmark area, Online lessons are available as well!

I'm open to Ongoing lessons or one off's. People often say that my lessons help to fill gaps in their knowledge and that I give them tricks that take their particular playing style further and aid them to teach themselves .

I'm particularly excited to be incorporating my own JAMOLOGY methods into my teaching which helps players to bridge the gap between playing solo and with other musicians.

Through my experiences playing Solo and with The Witchy Djypsies, Echo Omen, Suns of Sound, Dave Rastrick/EXP, Flamenquitos and a stack of other acts, there aren't many playing styles I can't add to!
