Twenty Shine Teen holds big things for The Basement Tapes clan, the first of which we can ANNOUNCE.
Calling all miners! We will see you in Perth at the State Theatre of WA from 29 Jan - 2 Feb.
Someone said Perth was hot (??) so please pray for the girl who spends a portion of the play in a fur coat. She devised for the Wellington climate (!!) She also takes cash donations (Star Jones)
But seriously, if you have friends in Perth tell them to come along. The theatre has air con

We've been sleeping off the Edinburgh hangover for the last month, as the Festival left us cross eyed.
We are here to say:
In our first week, we also won a prestigious Scotsman’ Fringe First award. Previous winners include Tadeusz Kantor (in the very first year), David Grieg, Ella Hickson, and Stephen (fu***ng) Fry. Long story short, we are in good company. Only twenty shows were hand picked to win a Fringe First at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe, and there were 3548 this year to choose from. You can see a video of us receiving the award, and Stella (Star) try and stop herself from trying to cry with great highlighter on (it is M.A.C.’s Vanilla) here: https://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/culture/edinburgh-festivals/scotsman-fringe-first-winners-seven-winners-from-week-one-in-edinburgh-1-4781922
In the second week we won the Stage Edinburgh Award for Outstanding Performance for our lil solo actor. Former winners of this award include Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Fleabag. Ten shows were awarded the Stage Edinburgh Award for Acting at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. One of the winners was fu***ng Julie Hesmondhalgh. (If you don’t know who she is, she played Hayley on Coro for like twelve years lol). Sadly Stella didn’t get to meet her as the award ceremony was on the same time as … The Basement Tapes.
So the show must go on.
Dust, Edinburgh dust.
We'll be back.
Don't sleep on us.

WE ARE AT 86% AND OVER 💯 PEOPLE HAVE DONATED! We are overwhelmed by the response as we get close to 50 HOURS LEFT OF OUR BOOSTED!
Tonight we are having an impromptu design meeting slash pizza and beers night and we would like to say THANK YOU! Except for Joe Wright who wants to say a kind of "hey I'd like to go to sleep soon"

💃*~WEDNESDAYS IS FOR THE WOMAN CRUSH~*💃
There aren't enough words to describe how much Star Jones owes to the likes of Miss Jamie Mackman, the likes of whom STILL laughs at jokes from the show that are over a YEAR AND A HALF OLD PEOPLE. We also know her as production designer Oliver Morse's antidote, providing the sweet sweet release of her critical artistic eye over our basement. Sounds like a euphemism doesn't it? Of course we'd make it sexy, just look at the bitch!

Many things change, including Star Jones' ability to fit those shorts, but one things stays the same. MY HAIR MOTHERF**KERS, I'M NOT FIXING ANYTHING THAT AIN'T BROKE..

Today we take you back to where the meat of the work was made. Anyone recognise that crumbly floor? High up over the smells of Cuba Street? We did the bulk of our head scratching at the old New Zealand Fringe Festival offices in 2016. Our team owes a lot to the tautoko and general standing behind us of Hannah J Clarkapo, without whom a Melbourne season and Edinburgh interest would not have happened. These smelly feet are for you Hannah!

For this week, The Basement Tapes team are throwing back. We are showing you the ruddy underbelly of our history as we prepare for the great danger known as Edinburgh Festival Fringe. To help us live while we're there, you can donate to our Boosted campaign for only SEVEN MORE DAYS: https://www.boosted.org.nz/projects/the-basement-tapes-does-edinburgh

Today we throw back to the time in 2016 when we rented out a random community hall for devising that we discovered we could v**e in. Our spatial designer, Oliver Morse, v**ed way back when only weird men did it.

Today is for another throwback, this time pretty recent. Here lies Joe Wright, drum punisher for Tuscoma and sometimes Pizza Guy, alongside performer Star Jones at Melbourne Fringe in 2017.

They are listening to Arj Barker's Melbourne Fringe comedy set through a vent instead for paying for tickets.

Today we take it back to the pack out of our very first season with Star Jones and Jane Yonge.
Fun Fact one: It was Valentines' Day, and Star Jones got a bottle of wine as a gift she didn't drink for AGES.
Fun Fact two: Polaroids don't show up any wrinkles or sweat.

Starting today, we are throwing it RIGHT back. This is the whiteboard (with some carefully smudged spoilers, thank you iPhoto) from our VERY FIRST Devising workshop over Waitangi weekend in 2016.

Featuring the input of the brave and amazing Keegan Bragg, Matt Bloomfield, Karin McCracken, Stevie Hancox-Monk, Lily Della Porta, and Oliver Morse. Your ideas live on this year at Summerhall. Well not all of them, we certainly threw out the "supermarket opening" as soon as we could, but that may have been one of Star Jones' harebrained schemes ..
