1989, I started Djing. It was the same year I started on radio. A side hustle to bring in some extra easy money. I ran a small business in Carnarvon, then moved to Geralton and continued it there, still doing the radio thing as well as picking up gigs with my mate John who was running FM1 Pro DJs if im remembering right. Things moved on as they do, and I found myself working Cap City Radio in Perth; 96fm, 6PR & 6IX, and still djing on the side. I recall us all working NYE 2000 at the station dreading the crash of Y2K that never happened.
February 2nd 2005 and I signed the contract and took ownership of Party Sounds. Moved to Mandurah a short time later to work on Coast and 6MM. Then after a bit I stepped out an went full-time DJ business running. People were working for me and if the parties weren't going off then my bills weren't getting paid.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Covid
And a great MC, a reasonable DJ, and a terrible business man, all in one, drove Party Sounds to the wall.
NYE two years ago I closed the door.
Nothing remains of what was once the power house DJ company in Perth. There wasn't a pub Sunday session in Perth during the 80's that didn't have us on the roster.
Its all reduced to photos on hard drives, some old awards stashed away, and a few scattered bit of aged sound gear spread around the house and back shed.
A head full of memories and a heart full of regret.
Tonight we took down the website. We had to, the ABN lapsed a year or nearly two ago and you can't have a dot au without one. I was just not ready to do it, taking down the website and terminating the domain name really is admitting that I failed.
So this is it. This neglected little slice of Facebook is the last hurrah of a company that was founded in 1958, that saw 100s of DJs, shared in thousands of great parties, and celebrated with couples and their family and friends at more weddings than I can guess at.
Thanks for the friendships and the memories Party Sounds, I'm going to miss you, now I admit your gone.
