Red Betty’s in Melbourne played host to my first ever “featured author” slot performing readings from my bootleg, unreleased, under-anticipated collection of poetry & shorts ‘This Is Art, Please Destroy’.
I was blown away by the reception of my work and filled with a rekindled spark to attack the typewriter.

I also want to take a moment and recommend an amazing film “The Painter and the Thief” (2020). This is the kind of film I needed to take a moment and share with others as it is amazing. I’m not sure how else to describe it.

Synopsis: An artist whose two large paintings were stolen tracks down one of the thieves, leading to an unlikely, deeply complex, and strangely profound friendship filled with twists and raw humanity.

In a sea of content created for the benefits of the algorithmic desire of ad sellers on platforms designed to steal your time while they distract and pontificate about status symbols, occasionally you find a life vest that is there to keep you above the murky deep for just a little longer.

This appeared to me and it was what I needed on a day where it felt like the waves might swallow me whole.

Exurb1a this was magnificent and for that I thank you. I hope my sharing will be a life vest for someone else that needs it.

This is the type of art I will turn up for, at 4 in the morning when it calls, when it shows up at my door bleeding, when it feels like the darkness stretches on forever, this is the art I will turn up for.
