Dani Zink - Adjudicator

What a fun end to my adjudicating calendar for 2026!

Thank you Elite Eisteddfod for having me yesterday at the Vasto Club.

Adjudicating always leaves me completely energised and proud of the talent our studios are honing here in Perth and yesterday was no exception.

Thank you to Dani and Mel for having me and ensuring I was fed and watered! I appreciate the organisation and energy that you put into the eisteddfod and am grateful for your unwavering support when difficult conversations arise surrounding appropriateness!

Well done to all the performers, I loved sharing my passion with you all 💙

My incredible friend Paula Nicoletto has written a pretty important book about boys in dance.

I started reading it today and so far, its touching my heart and soul. My brother danced with me growing up. I watched from afar as my cousin over east did too. I've taught boys over the years and now I adjudicate them.

Dancers, teachers, parents, other adjudicators - its a view changing and eye opening read. Highly recommend.

I had the most incredible time adjudicating the past 5 days at ON STAGE Performing Arts Competitions in the stunning Rixon Theatre at Penhros College.

The absolutely stunning technique and dynamics I was lucky enough to watch made my heart and soul so happy - well done to every studio, teacher and performer for sharing your love and passion with me! Last night was just the icing on the cake with the Junior Championship - huge congratulations to the winners and the performers 🏆

A huge thank you to Jane, Joe, Marcus, Michaela and Alex for looking after me and making sure I was fed, watered, comfortable and capable! It is always a pleasure working alongside you all! I appreciate your organisation, all the fantastic team members and that your high integrity and values align with mine.

I wish you all a fabulous final day today!

The world can be a scary place. Let's make sure the dance world isn't included in that!

After recent poaching occurring again, my question was, what can we actually do about this? Ausdance WA membership to the rescue.

PLEASE go to Ausdance WA's website for child safety and check out their resources. I will attach a flow chart so you can see who to call at what time to report any child welfare concerns.

As peak body for dance, Ausdance WA has developed a suite of dance-specific resources for the WA dance community to support the context we work in and address specific risks around the safety and wellbeing of young people.

Competitions are about more than the placings.

It's about the journey from learning the routine, to understanding it, to working as a team and growing.

Then; showing everyone your love and passion on stage.

As an adjudicator, I want to remind everyone that in Australia, there is no overruling or governing body which aligns competitions and eisteddfods in scoring so it truly is just one person's (well educated) opinion.

As a teacher, I couldn't be more proud of these 5 hard-working and beautiful young ladies from The Dance Stage, Malaysia for their consistency and growth with this routine.

As a dancer, I am more and more grateful for the friendships and life lessons competition dance gave me. The trophies collect dust (I honestly have only kept 5 from the years) but the memories and friends remain strong.

The best weekend at Diamond Dance Competition with so much Perth talent!

I love being back stage and of course, MCing is always so much fun!

Well done to everyone for some fantastic performances and your gorgeous faces ❤️

I couldn't agree more with my friend Kate Histon-Behrend

Let dancers be kids! More thought needs to go in to the creation of performances to ensure we aren't giving children themes and choreography that is too mature for them. Music and costuming is part of this too!
