The students at Woodbridge PS preparing their NAIDOC gift for their Elders.
Kids got together to speak about their connection to the surrounding area and drew up what they wanted this piece to represent. Love seeing their creativity and hearing the stories they’ve learnt from their Elders.🖤💛❤️

One of the boys spoke about the turtles in the river, hearing his little story made me think of both my Grandmothers, Nanna Doreen and Nan Sheila. How they spoke about going down to the same river with their mums and getting turtles🤎

It’s hard to explain and put into words how connected you can become to a piece. From the moment you imagine what you’re going to paint, to falling asleep dreaming about it and then figuring out how to put all of those thoughts onto the canvas.
But the moment I love is when the room is silent and I can feel the presence of my ancestors around me while I paint.
It’s a strong feeling and the reason I love the journey with every piece.

Certain places she’s allowed to go and the path she has to take to get there. Feeling the land and taking it all in.
