My absolute FAVOURITE part of documenting other artists' work is getting to interview them. This conversation about Helah's residency, the isolation of independent practice and the merits of process-driven work was particularly resonant for me - as after the momentous project of You're So Brave in 2021, I began 2022 without a single project on the horizon. While this was quite scary (and saw me crying a lot during the Perth Fest Lab lol), I'm really glad I sat in that space (for months!!!!) and waited for my artistic impulses to surface again. It also meant coming to terms with a lot of the judgements and fears I had about the work I want to make that was stopping me making it.

Anyway I adore this video because I feel like I did this project justice and that makes me very proud.

I will never get tired of capturing artists in their element, and there was so much about this project that really spoke to the sort of process I believe in and find most exciting in my own work! 😍

Sketches and planning from a recent self-shoot project 🐏

I think the big lesson of this year for my practice has been that growth requires risk. I’m v thankful to the artists and friends in my life who have encouraged me to follow my creative interests when I’ve been afraid to do so 💗

Happy 2023! 🎉
6 years ago today I left Perth for Hong Kong for the first time.
I was there for 18 months and took another 4 years to stage a piece of art about it.
Let’s make 2023 a year where we embrace taking the time we need with our creative process.
