Water Song: Perth Festival, 28 and 27 February.

Beauty and nourishment in dark times. A new work composed collaboratively by Ensemble Ochaye, who draw from their rich personal and cultural stories -from Australian, Korean, Chinese, Iranian, Irish and Dutch Jewish heritage – to create a vibrant tapestry of sound reflecting water’s profound significance across cultures and histories.

Through intricate improvisations and collective composition, the music explores water as a symbol of communication with the afterlife, a force of mystery and power, a vessel of emotion and a source of community, joy, celebration and survival. It reflects on water’s role as a threshold between worlds, a conduit of life and death and a source of inspiration that unites diverse cultural perspectives.
