'Before I Belong' sits in a landscape that feels both inhabited and not yet fully claimed. Yorkshire hills roll through the background in quiet layers, dotted with the familiar motifs of rural life, while the dark sculptural branches of a Round Leafed Mallee eucalypt possess the foreground, bridging two worlds not yet reconciled.

The raindrops fall sparsely through the composition, showing the first stirrings of transition, but not yet in full flow. This is a landscape of arrival, painted from the threshold, looking out from the new world at the receding landscape.

'Before I Belong' is part of the Threshold Series - original mixed media on board, 50×50cm. Available now via the link in my bio or call in and see the work in person from 10am today to 4pm on Sunday as part of the final weekend of for 2026.

This is the painting that names the series.
'Threshold' holds the central idea of this body of work most directly — a banksia and field barn sitting at the heart of the composition, marking the point of passage between two worlds. The landscape is simultaneously the distant Yorkshire Dales and the nearby Noosa National Park. The warm soft pinks of the Sunshine Coast at dusk meet the cool grey of a northern English sky in winter, each world separately claiming its presence in the picture plane whilst being inseparably connected.

The eucalypt branches reach upwards, symbolising growth from new roots. The raindrops mark not an ending or a beginning but the living, breathing state of identifying so completely with two worlds. To stand at this threshold is to be fully alive, quite literally, to both sides of the planet.

You'll be able to see this painting in person at my Peregian Beach studio during — 14–23 August. The studio is open 10am to 4pm both weekends during the event (Fri, Sat, Sun)

There are places you arrive at and immediately recognise, not because you've been there before, but because something in the landscape already feels like home.

'Under a Different Sky' is part of the Threshold Series.

This painting references the joy of finding myself somewhere I never imagined I would belong. The ground beneath my feet connects me, across hemispheres to the same earth I cam from and instils in me the same deep instinct for connection to the landscape, and yet the sky above tells an entirely different story. Where northern light levels are low and often heavy with grey, the light of the Sunshine Coast is expansive and radiant; it floods the landscape with a warmth and luminosity that changes everything it touches and invites a completely different way of seeing and being. Banksias from the landscape surrounding my Peregian Beach studio, ground the work firmly in the present; in the place I have arrived at, grown into, and become fluent with. It is the anchor of the here and now. The raindrop motifs fall freely symbolising my immersion in the transition between one life and another, between the landscape carried in memory and the one unfolding daily beneath an entirely new and generous sky.

You'll be able to see this painting in person at my studio during Noosa Open Studios, 14–23 August, Peregian Beach. Mon–Sat, 10am–4pm.

These are the early layers of the Threshold Series — the underneath that most people never see. The collage, the mark-making, the first washes of colour before the painting finds its way.

The finished works are at the framers right now. When they come back, they'll be available for the first time - just in time for 14-23 August.
