Following significant feedback from communities and growing concerns over COVID-19, the Parramasala Board has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 Parramasala Festival. The safety and wellbeing of our communities is of the highest importance to the board, stakeholders and event managers of Parramasala.

Not long to go - Parramasala kicks off this Friday with the Welcome Parade from 7PM! Join us at Centenary Square, as we welcome in our tenth anniversary edition with a shimmering cavalcade of over 600 dancers, drummers and performers moving through Church Street down to Prince Alfred Square.

The Parramasala 2020 Festival will proceed this weekend as planned. At this stage, NSW Health have advised that the risk of community spread of COVID-19 in NSW is low, therefore NSW Health does not propose altering arrangements for public events.

The Festival team is actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and will put in place any additional health and safety measures if required and as directed by the NSW Government.

The best way to protect yourself and the community is to:

- not attend the festival if you have been to a country that is considered at higher risk of COVID 19 in the past 14 days
- not attend the festival if you are sick, feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms
- make sure to clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub
- cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or into a flexed elbow
- avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.

Huge congratulations to Sampa The Great, who today made history by becoming the first artist in history to win the prestigious Australian Music Prize TWICE! Her latest album The Return was awarded the $30,000 prize today, just two years after her 2017 album Birds and the BEE9 first took out the title.

Get ready for the iconic Welcome Parade at Parramasala 2020, featuring a colourful procession of 600+ performers, drummers and musicians on Friday, 13 March from 7pm.

We are currently seeking volunteers to assist in the marshalling of the parade. Please contact 0404 765 643 if you're interested in assisting this celebration of colour, music and movement.
