Melbourne Lockdown No5 Project No5 was to finally work out how to get this 1960's Danelectro 'Silvertone' ensemble going.
The 1448 "amp-in-case" valve amp is notoriously cheaply made & therefore also potentially rather dangerous.
It was purchased from San Francisco in 2015 (IIRC) and amp was not functional.
A few attempts were made over the ensuing years to work out which parts were missing or faulty, such as valves & an appropriate output transformer.
Lockdown times offered a bit more time to sit down & identify exactly which cap's & resistors were too far gone & replace them, getting to the point where it now made sound again!
The 6" speaker which had been installed at some stage was also not a good sounding match, so I changed it over to a more lively-sounding little Rola speaker.
The plan is finally to just add a (switching) speaker jack, so that you can easily connect the amp to a different speaker cab if desired.
But it sounds great with the onboard speaker, and amazing with a bit of extra drive, fuzz, or echo etc.
I'm not sure if the longer-scale "big sibling" other Danelectro 'Silvertone' guitar (included in second photo) would have also originally been offered with an amp-in-case package option, or perhaps the more serious player was expected to buy one of the larger Silvertone standalone amps to go with it?
That one was purchased in LA in 2010 from Craig's List. (back in the 'good old days' for guitar procurement, when $AUD was higher than $USD for a brief moment in history!)
This amp is now powered via a 240v to 120v step-down power transformer, which provides electrical safety isolation as well. Silver(tone) linings to another lockdown & associated interruptions!
Hope you're all keeping well out there.
TLDR: hey! A cool amp! -works again!
Nice chimey guitars.
