Groooooovinnnnn with the women of Papunya Tjupi 💘

The ladies come together in the Art Centre to paint their tjukurrpa and song lines. Evidence of this feast of life is seen in every painting. Their stories are tribute to kapi, ngurra, and stories of mangarri tjata ngurrarra that is found, collected and celebrated. These stories are essential to survival but also show that the desert is far from barren – if you know where to look.

Doris Bush Nungarrayi is a story teller. And her playful depictions of her life are coming to Laundry Gallery for her first solo on Larrakia Country.

“It’s easier to collect bark in the wet season, it’s easier to get off the trees. Before we painting on them we get the men to peel the excess off and put on the fire to make them straight. And we keep doing that until it’s nice and firm for panting. And we sand it so it’s easier for painting.” Christine Puruntatameri

Responding to the charged strangeness of everyday life in the tropical north, Minna Leunig invites us away from polished restraint and into the land of the Tropical Tongue: a world that’s unapologetically alive, feral, and a little bit rude.

Open until Feb 8, don’t miss this - it’s brilliant ⚡️🌴

“Stay wild, keep the spirit undomesticated. Protect what’s alive: the land beneath our feet and the fire within.” - Minna Leunig

Tropical Tongue, Minna’s ferocious observation of the sensory overload of the Tropics, is now live at the link in bio.

We are so excited to bring Minna’s bold, instinctive world into ours embracing the wild sensuality + charged energy of our home ⚡️🐊
