Medicare support for speech-sound difficulties ๐Ÿ’œ

Recent changes mean Medicare now helps cover the cost of speech therapy for children and young people who stutter or have speech-sound difficulties (including articulation disorder, phonological disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, dysarthria), and for those with cleft lip and/or palate.

Children and young people under 25 may be able to get Medicare rebates for:
๐Ÿ”น speech assessments (up to 8 sessions)
๐Ÿ”น ongoing speech therapy (up to 20 sessions)

Helpful tips for families ๐Ÿ“Œ
๐Ÿ”ธ A referral is required from a GP, specialist or consultant physician
๐Ÿ”ธ Medicare provides a rebate, so some families may still have a gap fee depending on the provider
๐Ÿ”ธ Not all speech pathologists offer Medicare rebated sessions, so ask first
๐Ÿ”ธ Early support can make a real difference, but itโ€™s never too late to seek help
๐Ÿ”ธ NDIS and Medicare cannot be used for the same session

This is an important change that parents of children who stutter or who have speech-sound difficulties have long advocated for.

More than 1 in 5 Australians surveyed* agree that a woman is partly responsible if her n**e image is shared without consent after sending it to her partner ๐Ÿคณ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Victim-blaming and minimising digital sexual violence can stop people from reporting abuse and fuel shame, self-blame and trauma.

The person who shares intimate images without consent is the one causing harm and wholly responsible. The responsibility is not shared with the victim.

Consent must always be sought and always respected.

If someone shares or threatens to share an intimate image or video of you, eSafety can help have the content removed or stop the threats.
