Evening Swingers
On Sunday we held our Championship finals in less than ideal conditions. At the start of the day the committee gathered at the course to assess the course to ensure it was playable due to the rain the day before and overnight. The days forcast wasn't looking great either with 25-30mm possible and wind gusts of 55 + km/h. Golf is a winter sport but if the sandscrapes become water logged, the course would deemed unplayable

In the A grade men's final is was reining champion Anthony "Snowy" White up against Todd "Boon" Baker in what was going to be a real shootout kind of match. Once play got underway both players halved the first holes, then Snowy won the next 2 holes to gain a small lead early. Each player traded wins and losses with Snowy taking a lead of 2 holes after 9 holes. After holes 10 and 11 snowy shot away to a 4 up lead. Todd bounced back with a win on hole 16 and after 18 holes Snowys lead was 3.

After a light lunch the pair headed out for the second 18 holes. Snowy again won holes 2 and 3 to be 5 up. Thats when the s**t hit the fan with sideways rain and brutal winds set in. Todd took the advantage to win the next 2 holes. The pair traded wins and losses until on the 32nd hole snowy chipped out to take the win 5 up with 4 to play.

In the B grade men's final it was veteran Simon "Pink Nuts" McNamara and young gun Eddie Piggot. With Eddie on a lower handicap and Simon with his vast experience across the board, it was surely going to be a close match. With the wind up and the thick rough, staying on fairways would be key with Eddie finding alot more than Simo which resulted in The young gun taking a first 18 lead of 7 and have a commanding advantage.
This didn't get much better for Pink Nuts as Eddie continued on his way hitting them straight, although soaking wet and shivering to walk away with a great win of 10 up with 9 to play. Great effort Eddie.

Ladies final between Reining champion Kate Williams and Nardine Odea was always going to go down to the wire , with both having a competitive desire to win.
Luckily they both had local caddies who knew the course well and stick selection would be paramount.
Neither player really had a commanding lead, with a very even match. That's when Kate drained the put and was 2 up with 2 to play, Nardine dug her heals in and said not today Kate and went on to win holes 26 and 27 to force it to play extra holes. After all the wind and rain, tired bodies, and listening to Jacko's bones rattle from being so cold Kate decided to win it on the 28th hole. A great effort from both golf golfers. Congratulations to all the winners and commiserations to all the runners up, showing great sportsmanship and commitment to not give up.

From all he players a huge thankyou to the caddies who stuck around in the terrible conditions, we really appreciated your efforts. Roundy just has to learn to give Gam hugs when asked. 😜

That's the finals wrap up, thanks for everyone who helped out the day with a light lunch and Gam cooking chips and nuggs. The seasons not done yet with a couple of competitions and association day at port augusta coming up soon.
