🎭 Did You See The Sentimental Bloke? 🎭

One of the highlights of the opening festival was The Sentimental Bloke, presented by the newly formed Orange Theatre Company. The production ran for seven performances from 25–30 October 1976 and was promoted as the biggest production ever mounted by the company.

The show featured local favourites Mary Aveyard, Stan Murray and Trina Ash and starred Peter Thoms as "The Bloke". Were you involved in the production?

💃 Did You Perform on the Civic Theatre Stage in 1976? 🕺

Just days after opening, the Orange Civic Theatre welcomed hundreds of local school students for the Primary Schools Musicale.

Students from Bletchington Primary School, Orange East Primary School, Calare Primary School, Orange Public School and Glenroi Heights Primary School performed choral and instrumental music as part of the opening festival.

Junkyard Beats is an imaginative music education and performance rhythm group combining drumming, dance, theatre and comedy to create a unique, interactive and captivating experience.

Drawing on inspiration from everyday life – the streets, the home and the land, performances teach invaluable skills including rhythm and movement drawing on body percussion and music produced out of recycled materials and everyday objects.

The story takes place in a magical junkyard - home to two unique individuals. Each morning they wake up to find a new pile of junk and together they take the audience on a journey of creative recycling.

🌟 Were You at Opening Night? 🌟

On Saturday 9 October 1976, the Orange Civic Theatre officially opened with a spectacular CBN Night of Stars Gala Concert.

The evening featured Jimmy Hannan, Lorrae Desmond, Isador Goodman, Bobby Clayton, Ricky and Tammy, Chris Kirby, Norman and Nancye Berg and the Rowland Gregory Singers.

After the performance, guests attended a Ch*****ne and Chicken Supper on the stage itself.

GRIMM, the latest tour de force from Shake & Stir Theatre Co beckons you into a world where fairytales are reimagined with a profound intensity. Be warned – these bedtime stories may cause nightmares…

Within darkened corridors and haunting landscapes, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and many other intriguing characters emerge from the shadows, the truth behind their stories – warts and all – boil and bubble to the surface.

From the company behind the award-winning stage spectacles – Frankenstein, Jane Eyre and A Christmas Carol – comes this bold adaption of tales from the Brothers Grimm in a bewitching theatre experience.

Adapted by Nelle Lee, directed by Daniel Evans and costumes designed by Australian fashion icon Paul McCann – expect a lavish, loud and lucid night.

🎭 50 Years of the Orange Civic Theatre – We're Looking for Your Stories 🎭

In October 1976, the Orange Civic Theatre opened its doors for the very first time.

Over the next 50 years, thousands of people have performed on its stage, worked behind the scenes, volunteered, attended shows, graduated, celebrated and created memories that are part of Orange's cultural story.

As part of the Orange Civic Theatre's 50th Anniversary Oral History Project, we're collecting stories, photographs, programmes and memorabilia from across the last five decades.

This project is supported by the Orange Regional Arts Foundation and will help preserve the stories of the people who have made the theatre what it is today.

Over the coming months we'll be sharing memories from throughout the theatre's history and inviting the community to contribute their own.
