Joker Follie a Deux is a brilliantly subversive, wonderfully designed and executed deconstruction of the myth of fame or infamy; it speaks, or more sings loud and clear, in gentle tones of desperation, loss and anguish to the sadness of the state of the US, or indeed modern western society.
It eats itself and regurgitates the blackhole fans can’t or don’t want to see. There’s something so satisfying about watching the big screen tear itself to shreds right before your eyes. Follie a Deux wears its everything on its sleeve but still you have to peel away to find it all. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix shore up this fantasmagoria in such a believable and moving pairing of souls lost, that you, so easily, can hold tight to their journey and its inevitable end. And all to the perfectly pitched and performed American songbook. To be frank it would be follie to not give this masterstroke of modern American myth just the 2 hours of your time it deserves, and pay close attention from get go, not a second is wasted.

Over the last 2 days I've done what i did as a teen; lock myself in a cinema. For 15 years, as a one time triple j and Double J film reviewer I would see 500 or so films a year - the average Australian sees 3 a year, in a cinema. When I left, it took me more than 2 years to be able go back. When I did I discovered my heart, mind and soul had developed an allergic reaction to s**t film; my eyes would begin to sting and weep uncontrollably. I would persevere through it; I've only ever walked out of 1 film! There are so many stories to all this and maybe I'll start to tell them but for now...
I watched Megalopolis Film. The one thing I really liked about it is the Caesar and the narrator drive around in a Citroen Goddess.
I watched Substance. One of things I liked about is was its true hat tip the masters of body horror, Cronenberg, De Palma and Argento, but with an anima spin.
I watched The Assassin's Plan. One thing I liked about it, was it's unashamed pro-choice story running beside that of a hitman with alzheimers.
All of the by the way at the brilliant Cinema Nova

See this film and I dare you to find any difference between Hitler's SS and Netenyahu's Tzahal in their indifference to their victims. Ironically Disney's Circle of Life, is death!

Never miss a Curved Radio

This Thursday 1st Feb, in the UK, Dr. Angela Last of Mottomotto Records, who works and lives at the intersection of human geography and art is baaaaack on the Curve. Angela is also a musician who always brings interesting music to her curvy duties.
This week she has a musical version of the poem 'Tropical Address' by Mascha Kaleko, a track from Celina Bostic that speaks to not letting yourself be brought down by racist, homo/transphobic or Misogynistic comments (her music has been called empowerment pop) and a track from Mutter, a band described as one of the last big German post-punk bands that are still actively practicing counterculture without relying on toothless cliches and tired American poses.
Gayle's music includes: Dave Graney, Clare Moore& Catherine McQuade, Miriam Makeba, Anna Calvi, New York Dolls' Johnny Thunders & Sn**ch Sn**ch/Flying Lizards' Patti Palladin, Umm Kulthum, David Bridie & Catherine Devoney, Skwirl, Amy Winehouse, Hazel Scott, Billie Holiday, Andra Day, The Real Tuesday Weld, and more if they can fit.
Curved Radio broadcasts via the Eastside Radio 89.7FM studios and streams across the multiverse, 9.30pm-11.30pm Sydney time. Check the world clock for times at your place.
