The Keepers Collective

Rachael Thomas
My ceramic practice is an exploration of form, quiet utility, and the natural rhythms of our local environment. Inspired by my daily ocean swims, gardening and hiking much of my work will reflect the shapes and contours of the environment including plants and seeds. Working across both hand-building and wheel-throwing, I design each piece to exist as a seamless continuation of the earth from which it came.
For me, clay is a grounding medium that demands presence and intention. Rather than creating objects for display, my focus is on crafting pieces that invite touch, functional ware meant to be held, used, and integrated into the rituals of everyday life. Through organic forms, natural textures and colours my work seeks to bring a connection between busy family life and the environment.

My ceramic practice is an exploration of form, quiet utility, and the natural rhythms of our local environment. Foundation Wheel - Sunday, a calm, skills-first course for adults who want steady progress at the wheel. Six weekly sessions, 3 hours each, held Sundays 9:30am-12:30pm in our fully equipped studio at Be My Keeper - Shed 4/39 Smithton Grove, Ocean Grove.

Classes are small (max 8) so you receive focused guidance and build strong, lasting habits. The course fee is AUD 590. A firing fee of $8 per kg applies. Please bring a towel and a mask.

Introducing The Keepers Collective

The Keepers Collective has been on my mind for a very long time, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you.

The Collective was created to give local artists and makers a platform to exhibit, promote and sell their work while supporting and learning from one another.

Our artists are at many different stages of their creative journeys—from experienced practitioners to emerging artists taking their first steps towards exhibiting and selling their work. Each brings their own unique ideas, skills and creative voice to the Collective.

At its heart, The Keepers Collective is about connection, collaboration and growth. Together, we are creating a dynamic and evolving gallery space where our community can discover original art and handmade pieces, knowing that every purchase directly supports a local artist or maker.

It is also a place where emerging artists can gain practical experience, encouragement and the tools they need to begin building a sustainable creative practice.

This is only the beginning. In time, we will also launch an online shop, making it possible to discover and support our artists from wherever you are.

We can’t wait to introduce you to our artists and share everything we are creating together.
