Handmade pieces have a way of making a space feel warmer and more personal. They carry the story of the person who made them, but over time they become part of someone else’s story too.

One of my favourite things is hearing why a piece resonated with its new owner. Sometimes it reminds them of a place, a person, or a memory they’d almost forgotten. Sometimes they simply can’t explain it, they just felt drawn to it.

That’s the beauty of handmade. The connection is unique. Every piece finds its own story, and no two are ever quite the same.

The post-exhibition low is real - and it’s part of the rhythm behind every finished collection.

After a show, there’s always a shift. The deadline passes, the energy drops, and the studio feels strangely quiet. I’ve learnt that the most productive thing I can do for my practice in this phase isn’t to force new work, but to stay gently connected to making.

That might look like tidying the studio, preparing clay, finishing commissions or throwing a few simple forms with no pressure attached. Nothing aimed at a collection - just keeping my hands in the rhythm.

It usually takes a couple of weeks before something shifts again. This time, it was about two weeks, getting started on a commission and three pots before I felt that familiar pull back into deeper making.

This in-between space matters. It’s where ideas reset, materials are re-encountered, and the next body of work quietly begins to form long before it’s visible in a gallery.

Every collection has this quieter chapter behind it - this is mine.

Cindy Tong has been on our radar for a while. The ceramic artist and potter from Gippsland has developed a distinct personality to her pottery that both celebrates everyday objects and whilst also tapping into deeper artistry with her vessel forms.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas. And a special thank you to Kate, her mum Sue, and the family at for filling our homes and hearts with such beautiful flowers.

For the last four years, Kate has gently reminded me Mother’s Day is coming by asking, “Do you have any vases?” Every single year I underestimate how much work goes into them. Every single year I complain a little too much about why I didn’t start earlier. And every single year, once the flowers go in, I remember why I said yes again.

It’s such an honour to be part of this collaboration. To make something that holds and accentuates what is already beautiful on its own. To know these pieces end up in people’s homes during moments of love, care, celebration and connection.

Ceramics can feel like a long, painful battle sometimes. So much of it is uncertainty - hoping the glaze lands where you imagined, hoping the kiln doesn’t undo hours of work, hoping your hands can keep up with the ideas in your head. But every now and then, something comes out exactly as you intended… sometimes even better. And in those moments, you remember why you keep going.

I think all makers need little nudges like that from time to time.

Thanks Kate. Worth it!

March came and went quickly - I feel like I’m only just catching up.
All works from Blanc have been welcomed into new homes. Thank you to the collectors, and to Karen and Kirsty for presenting the exhibition. It was an honour to exhibit alongside such a strong group of ceramicists.
More work to come for those looking to collect next.
