A Week to remember

Wow what a week for our choir!

A mid-week performance of "Munya" at the school's Naidoc Week assembly, which by all accounts went VERY well thanks to those who were available.

Then our performance at the Festival of Voices Finale Concert on Sunday!

We were very impressed with the organisation by FOV officials on the day at the Grand Chancellor and in the Federation Hall. Our group was made very welcome, and we felt very much included in practices and the performance. The comment was made by the Festival Director, Isobel Marmion, that maybe the festival had somewhat neglected local choirs in the past, and that there was an intention of correcting that, moving forward. We can expect to be contacted next year!

We had front row seats for the concert, and the calibre of the early choirs, including the Australian Voices, the Festival Statesmen, and the Gospel freedom Choir was very daunting for our choir members - they were all incredibly polished, and the songs were so different and challenging. And the lunchtime performance by the Gay and Le***an choir in the Atrium Bar gave an indication of things to come. But once on stage, I felt that we acquitted ourselves admirably. It was such a blast to sing with Ali as she played the grand piano!

Well done to the ten members (plus Ali) who were available and made the effort to be there, and to "fly our flag"! We should begin thinking about how we can reach even greater heights next year - maybe a big-stage unveiling of our locally-grown "Munya"?
