Mudjingaal Yangamba means Spirit Singing in Dhurga, one of the original languages spoken on the South Coast. Brought together in 2022 by our sisters Djinama Yilaga and their vision, we have been inspired in our language journey, telling and sharing our stories through song, as strong Koori Women.

Comedy champions

‘One Silly Ring’ a quietly spoken Yarwura and Noongar woman from Broome, clad in a Michael Jackson inspired outfit, has taken out top prize at this year’s Deadly Funny National Grand Final with her deadpan, self-depreciating humour.
Also known as Pearl Smith, she was one of eleven First Nations comedians from across so-called Australia who had won or been invited as wildcards from regional Deadly Funny heats to the grandfinal in Naarm/ Melbourne last week.
There were radio hosts, performers, writers and singers looking for a new direction, some who ended up there after being encouraged, or maybe coerced, into having a crack at regional workshops. There was a dancer whose body is apparently held together with scotch tape and one woman who was forty years late for the gig. Whatever their reasons or back story they had a few things in common – deadly, Blak and funny.

📣 Regional Arts Fund Supports 25 New Projects Across NSW in 2026 📣

The Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund will provide $620,000 to support 25 new projects in regional, rural, and remote New South Wales in 2026.

Australian Government Minister for the Arts, the Hon Tony Burke MP said, “Where you live, shouldn’t dictate your level of involvement within Australia’s art sector. This funding will create over 850 jobs for regional artists and arts workers across Australia.

“From Mullumbimby, to Emerald, Warrnambool and Rapid Creek, audiences will get to experience some incredible projects across a range of different mediums.

“We know there’s a story for every place and a place for every story and this funding only further supports that.”

RANSW CEO, Dr Tracey Callinan OAM, commented, “This year we saw an unprecedently high demand for funding and many high quality applications. The successful applications in this year’s round of project grants from the Regional Arts Fund are a testament to the quality of and need for the arts in regional NSW and the impact it has in regional communities.”
