REmida, meaning ‘King Midas’ in Italian, reminds us of the Greek Mythological tale of Midas, whose touch turned anything to gold. REmida collects industrial discards from shops and factories around Perth, and makes these materials available to schools, childcare centres, artists and families. Come and visit and see what we have to offer; have a play or lend a hand. REmida also run workshops and ac

tivities for schools and festivals, and run professional development workshops for teachers about how to use reclaimed materials in the classroom. Finding beauty and value in the unexpected, REmida WA strives to foster a cultural shift towards the revaluing of waste materials and educate for a more sustainable future.

'Memories Redefined' by Elizabeth Nedela-Campbell - Our first Artist in Residence this year- wherein she took photography slides and reimagined the image as a collage using a variety of papers and textures. Each piece reflects the individual slide through a repurposed lens - using the photos lines and shapes to retell the story.

Calling sewists, quilters and all-round crafters! For November only, the West Metro Recycling Centre will be accepting clean fabric scraps and offcuts for donation to REmida Perth, a creative reuse centre that provides materials to artists and art teachers.

Textiles are difficult and costly to recycle, with the majority being sent to landfill. This is a great opportunity to give those offcuts a longer life as part of someone's creative project!

(And if you're dropping them off on 16 November, don't forget to get your map stamped as part of the Textile Retail Trail!)
