A free special artist talk with acclaimed Western Australian artist Judith Forrest, whose powerful exhibition THANKS, NO THANKS is currently showing at Gallery Central
For anyone pursuing a creative career, this is a rare opportunity to hear an honest and inspiring account of what it really takes to build a sustained arts practice. Over more than two decades, Judith has successfully delivered over 25 public art commissions across Australia. But behind every successful project are countless applications, pitches, concepts and rejections. THANKS, NO THANKS pulls back the curtain on that reality, showcasing both the successful and unsuccessful public art submissions that have shaped Judith’s remarkable career.
Far more than an exhibition about public art, this is a conversation about resilience, persistence and creative growth. Students from Visual Arts, Design, Fashion, Ceramics, Interior Design and related disciplines will gain valuable insight into professional practice, responding to briefs, presenting ideas to clients, and continuing to create despite setbacks. As one visitor to the exhibition observed, it is a “brilliant reminder for artists trying to find a way in the world, feeling disheartened but still stubbornly struggling onwards.”
Following the presentation, attendees will be invited to visit the exhibition with Judith and hear firsthand stories behind the works, submissions and commissions that have defined her journey.
