The Winter Salon exhibition at Gallery Lane Cove is now open.

I visited the gallery over the weekend, there is so much creative talent is on show in this exhibition.

I’m thrilled to have my Wave Bowl included in the exhibition, it was a little surreal to see it displayed in the gallery. 😊💙

Thank you Gallery Lane Cove for the opportunity 🙏🏻

One of THE NINE.

This one will be appearing with the 8 other pieces in this collection at our group exhibition, ’s Thrown from the Beaches.

The pieces in THE NINE were slab built with mid fire YG Speckle Clay. The slip colours were created with stains.

The surface effect I wanted was “old and worn”. The look of old painted structures found by the sea, worn by the winds, waters and sands of the ocean.

SUNRISE

This is one of my latest pieces that I’ve been making for ‘s upcoming Thrown from the Beaches exhibition.

I’ve been exploring coloured clay blending for this body of work. While I’m a bit partial to my blues (and greens) 💙💚, I wanted to depict the colours of the sunrise over the ocean. Those colours that start warm with the first peek of the sun and then loose themselves into muted colours as they follow along the horizon.

This vessel and a few more in this colour series will be on show at the Curl Curl Creative Space in June. And there will be pieces with my blue and green colours too. 😊

I’ve decided to return to exploring nerikomi.

Last year, for my Diploma major work, I worked extensively with coloured clay, experimenting with nerikomi techniques, with a very high failure rate. 😳 Cracks would open through the middle of pieces at every stage: building, drying and firing. As a result, I ended up with quite the collection of ceramic bloopers and decided to step away from the process for a while.

But I’m not one to give up easily, so I’m slowly returning to nerikomi again, this time without the pressure of a diploma hanging over me.

This bowl is my first piece this year, slab built using MF Black Paper Clay with the coloured clay. I’m adjusting my process slightly for now and already learning a lot. The bowl was perfectly round before its mid-fire firing, but the kiln gods had other plans… and out came this beautifully wavy bowl.

Preparation for # first group exhibition is underway.

My slab built vessels become the blank canvases for my coloured slip transfer designs.

This vessel is made using Granite clay. It’s in its raw form here and after 2 firings it will transform to a beautiful warm clay with its featured iron speckles.

Our exhibition, “Thrown from the Beaches” is being held in June.
