Got my CJ fix at what seems to be the only Contemporary Art Jewelry gallery in Madrid, . They have a great little setup, lots of drawers to discover treasures in and a terrific group exhibition on!
pop in if you get a chance when you're there next week.

Am loving being away but am sadly missing most of Sydney Craft Week and all the terrific shows and talks.

Have a work in 'Conversations Through Jewellery', which brings together work by the extended UNSW Art & Design jewellery community, including current and former staff, students, alumni, and educators. Spanning diverse approaches and perspectives, the exhibition traces the conversations that jewellery generates through making, teaching, learning, and exchange. Together, the works reflect the enduring relationships between people, materials, and ideas that continue to shape contemporary jewellery practice.

Lipoma-Lemon (Miracle-Gro) was developed in 2012 at the invitation of Melinda Young for Unnatural Acts at Craft Victoria. Participating artists were each given a collection of artificial foliage, fruit and vegetables as the starting point for new work.

This work grew from my travels throughout the mountainous regions of the Philippines, where I was overwhelmed by the amount of advertising for artificial fertilisers. Signs promoting products promising faster growth, greater yields and more abundant crops. It prompted me to think about the less visible consequences of chemically assisted abundance, and the potential impacts of fertiliser use on human health and the environment

The show is on at

Thank you Seville, that was lovely!

We wandered the narrow streets, ate tapas, discovered an underground, intimate Flamenco venue that reminded me of the old Annandale Side-On Jazz days, visited the Cathedral, climbed the tower, were shooed off the cooling grasses in the gardens of Alcazar (it seems only the peacocks can sit there), did a tour on an eco tuk-tuk (definately worth it), watched kids use green seville oranges fallen from the street trees as footballs, and ate way too many delicious Portuguese tarts and empanadas!

Onwards to Madrid.

From Morocco to Seville...where the streets are lined with orange trees. My kinda town!

Such a beautiful city. Our plane was delayed so we arrived at 3am. Spent the first day tired but happy to be walking these beautiful streets.

Pic 2 is of a very old plane tree. The street was lined with them. Some of the trunks were almost hollow and they'd been badly hacked at over the years yet still they survive.

Very hot here still. Mid 30s. Have been seeing pics of the floods on the east coast but no rain here so far.

Our days in Morocco are nearly over. We flew into Casablanca, drove straight to Tangier, enjoyed a couple of days wandering and visiting the Kasbah. Then on to blue Chefchaouen, to Fes via Volubilis & a refreshing lunch at Scorpion House (tbh, thought the meal not quite as wonderful as its rated).
Then on to Skoura with a stop over in Errachidia. Onwards through dramatic landscapes and Todra Gorge to Skoura (a lovely green oasis in the desert). Over the High Atlas mountains to the haven of Ourika for a few days before arriving in Marrakesh.

Loved visiting Majorelle Gardens... and interestingly, the outside of the YSL museum looks very similar to the brickwork of the new Crows Nest metro in Sydney. Now I know where the designers got their inspo from!

From beautiful deserts to busy Marrakesh, there is so much to see and do...would love to spend more time here....I know I'll be back.

Although would probably give Marrakesh a miss next time! ☺️

One of the things I love about travelling in other countries, apart from food, arts, crafts, culture, and visiting local supermarkets, is observing local infrastructure...wondering about world wide solutions to waste management and resource capture, pest management and how other day to day ways of living are dealt with.

Cats seem to help with rodents. Have yet to see a scurrying rat in the souks.

And this is a fascinating way of disguising mobile phone towers in the landscape. I wonder what an Australian solution could be?
