Meet the Visionaries Behind Pow Wow Film Studios
Every great studio has a story, and at the heart of Pow Wow Film Studios are two industry leaders whose vision, expertise and passion have helped shape one of Australia's premier post-production facilities.
In 2009, Chris Fitz-Gibbon purchased the property at 190 Pacific Highway, North Sydney, embarking on an ambitious four-year transformation to create what is now Pow Wow Film Studios. His vision was to build a world-class creative environment where filmmakers, producers and storytellers could bring their projects to life.
Joining him is Peter Purcell, one of Australia's most respected re-recording mixers and sound supervisors. An Academy Award winner for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road, Peter has been at the forefront of Australian film and television sound for decades. As a partner and Sound Supervisor at Pow Wow Film Studios, he has helped establish the studio as a leader in immersive audio, specialising in Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 mixing for feature films, documentaries and television, while also delivering mixes for IMAX productions.
Peter's impressive body of work spans some of Australia's most celebrated productions. His feature film credits include The Water Diviner, The Lego Movie, Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two, The Railway Man, Gods of Egypt and Knowing. On television, he has crafted award-winning sound for series including Doctor Doctor, Water Rats, Police Rescue, Sea Patrol and the internationally acclaimed science fiction series Farscape.
His expertise also extends to immersive documentary storytelling, with acclaimed IMAX productions including Turtle Odyssey and Angkor, showcasing the power of sound to transport audiences into extraordinary worlds.
Together, Chris and Peter have built more than a studio—they have created a creative home for Australia's film and television industry. Combining innovative facilities, cutting-edge technology and decades of experience.
