Walanga Muru - Macquarie University

Walanga Muru is Macquarie University's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Centre. Walanga Muru is a Darug language name meaning 'follow your path'.

At Walanga Muru, we seek to support and assist students to choose the right path to take, to navigate the obstacles and tangles of life, and to emerge as strong, resilient leaders. The unit engages with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander current students, future students, alumni and Community members. We provide a welcoming and culturally safe environment and Community at Macquarie University,

and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in every way we can. Our main services include:
• Academic advice
• Enrolment support and tailored inductions
• Alternative entry pathways to University
• Scholarship support
• Tutoring
• Mentoring
• The Indigenous Cadetship Program
• Cultural knowledge and support
• Cultural and University Events
• A welcoming space with free printing, kitchen facilities, a student common room and study spaces

Whether you’re finishing Year 12, have been out of school for a while, are thinking about a career change, or are considering university for the first time, Macquarie could be part of your next step.
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Pathway (ATSIEP) offers another way for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply to study at Macquarie University.

NAIDOC @ MQ 2026 ❤️

Across the week, our campus came alive with culture, connection, celebration and community. From Culture in the Courtyard, to celebrating with our Walanga Muru community, and finishing together at the NAIDOC @ MQ Ball, there were so many special moments shared.

NAIDOC @ MQ is about more than the events. It’s about creating space for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, alumni and community to come together, share culture, celebrate achievements and strengthen connections.

A huge thank you to the Elders, community members, performers, artists, businesses, students and staff who shared their time, knowledge and energy with us, and to everyone behind the scenes who brought the week to life.

Most importantly, thank you to our Walanga Muru mob for showing up and making the week what it was. Seeing our community together, celebrating culture and one another, will always be something special.

First Nations undergraduate and Honours students at Macquarie University are invited to take part in a survey exploring access, participation and belonging in psychology.

Led by a research team from Macquarie Psychology in collaboration with Walanga Muru, the survey is an opportunity to share your experiences, ambitions and journey through psychology and help inform positive change for current and future First Nations students.

If you’re studying Psychology, including psychology units as part of your degree, we encourage you to have your say.

A first year Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Laws student at Macquarie University, Layla will compete in the T38 Long Jump, where she currently holds the Australian record.

A huge congratulations to our incredible Walanga Muru team who proudly represented our community at the 30th Annual Indigenous Nationals, hosted by the University of Newcastle and the Wollotuka Institute. 🖤💛❤️
Over the week, our team competed with determination, supported one another with unwavering encouragement, and represented Walanga Muru with pride, humility, and strength. Indigenous Nationals is about so much more than sport. It is about culture, connection, community, and the lifelong friendships created along the way.
Thank you for wearing our colours so proudly, for backing each other every step of the journey, and for showing what it means to be part of the Walanga Muru community. We hope this week has left you with memories you’ll carry for years to come and connections that continue long the week itself.
