Might I interest you in some of this seasons freshly harvested tebori flash?
On the menu is a wonderfully feathered tsuru (crane), typically symbolic of longevity and good fortune.
Followed by a pair of spicy kitsune (fox), representing intelligence but also trickery and transformation.
As a pallet cleanser, a sweet momo (peach) and the uchide no kozuchi (wishing hammer). While the peach is reminiscent of fertility and longevity, the hammer is generally considered to be a strong good luck charm.
From the gardens, a pair of botan (peony). The “king of flowers” is said to bring beauty but also show the fragility and dwindling nature of existence.
To round off the evening, some sensu (fans) and momiji (maple leaves). While they pair well, they don’t have to be enjoyed together. The sensu (fan) when opened is said to look like a blooming flower, and is compared to the fertile blooming earth. While the momiji (maple) is the symbol for lovers. But also a sign of redirection and regeneration, while reminding us of the cycle of life and death.
Thank you for reading my (very) average attempt to make a post more interesting than a general wall of informative text. Which one was your favourite? 🪷
If you made it to the end, I hope you enjoyed the low res photo of my cat 👍
