Something I’ve been working on for a while.

After many years of working with clay, I’ve been developing a new collection that draws on my experience as a maker while exploring some new directions.

It begins with the hand-thrown Cove Basin, made here in my Narrabeen studio, with more pieces to come.

I’ve created Throw Clay Collection as a home for this new work and to share what comes next.

Some clay monsters are roughly and hastily put together, but Pela, the 11-year old artist behind this masterpiece had a vision that needed a little more time. The results speak for themselves. Helping kids connect with and nurture their creativity is one of the best parts of this job.

Some highlights from a fabulous Term 2! Always love seeing the varieties of shape and colour that our students come up with, some carefully designed, some happy accidents. We welcomed Danya Cahalan and Camille Blyth on board as teachers this term, and hope they’ll be part of our crew for a long time to come. Thanks also to Will and Jo for bringing such joy to their teaching, and to Sara for helping keep the show on the road. Classes are filling up fast for Term 3, so don’t miss out. This is what it looks like when a 9kg basin goes supernova in the bisque. It’s somehow less annoying than the hairline cracks that claim@so many. Everything from Term 2 is fired and ready for collection (this was the only serious casualty). Holiday casual classes this morning and evening, and for the next 3 weeks. Details on the website, DM for enquires.

Lovely to come back from my travels (if a week in Bali can be called travels) to so many fabulous pots ready for the kiln. Thanks to everyone who kept Throw ticking over while I was away recharging. Can’t believe Term 2 finishes next week! DM if you have any questions about makeup classes.

So pleased to see our teacher Will Schubert and friend of the studio Maggie James at The Great Artists Market at Felons on Manly Wharf today! It’s been a real privilege watching them develop in skill and confidence in the last couple of years, in an environment that tough for artists to survive in. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to go along and buy some fabulous ceramics directly from the artist (it can even be a tax deduction!), and keep Sydney creative! .ceramics
