Lovely to come back from my travels (if a week in Bali can be called travels) to so many fabulous pots ready for the kiln. Thanks to everyone who kept Throw ticking over while I was away recharging. Can’t believe Term 2 finishes next week! DM if you have any questions about makeup classes.

So pleased to see our teacher Will Schubert and friend of the studio Maggie James at The Great Artists Market at Felons on Manly Wharf today! It’s been a real privilege watching them develop in skill and confidence in the last couple of years, in an environment that tough for artists to survive in. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to go along and buy some fabulous ceramics directly from the artist (it can even be a tax deduction!), and keep Sydney creative! .ceramics

One of the best parts of my job is being able to collaborate with local artists, some established, some just starting out. All the pots here are slipcast Mont Blanc porcelain, decorated with carving, painting and drawing. We’re working towards starting specialized porcelain painting classes in not-to-distant future. painting

More from the archives: 3 smoke-fired pots in red earthenware from my time at Judy Greene Pottery in Galway, Ireland, about 1998. I’d wrap them in rhubarb leaves and tinfoil, then put them in an oil drum with sawdust. Then it was time for the pub! It could smoke all weekend, even in the rain, unless some busybody disturbed it. Washed and polished with beeswax afterwards.

Some highlights from Term 1 (Part 1). Thanks to everyone who was part of Throw Clay this term, whether it was your first time on a wheel, or perhaps you’re a seasoned glaze whisperer. A huge thanks to our great teachers, Jo, Will and Alessandro for sharing their knowledge with passion and patience. Thanks to Sara for always being the adult in the room, and thanks to Ellie for calmly cleaning and sorting the exact same mess every week. Everything should be fired by now, so get in touch if@you have any questions about picking up your pots. Classes are uploaded for term 2. DM for enquiries.

From the archives. Found these old photos from my days making pots for the Irish painter Graham Knuttel in Ireland in the late nineties. I’d make them in my studio in Cork and drive them up to Dublin to drop them off. Never saw many finished, except in magazines, and now on the internet, where I can see now I should have charged a lot more!
