It's been five years since I last told this story, back in London ... No doubt I look older these days, and arguably I'm none the wiser ... but I can laugh at myself a little more now. And if that's not a sign of wisdom ... I don't know what is. Come and laugh with me!

The Problem With Pat (Maroussia Vladi at The Butterfly Club)
Maroussia Vladi has been making announcements about her skills as a storyteller and performer for a while now. This romantic “’(my)self-is-no-help’ comedy (and then onto surprises)” re-confirms it. Meet Mia (and you should). She’s got a problem most people would envy – a new love interest who seems perfect and shows nothing but care, delivers nothing but fun towards her. How. Dare! So obviously something must be wrong (or at best, not normal). Except maybe Pat really is what he seems to be... and the problem still remains. “Maybe” indeed. Vladi creates a comic book look (1960s pastel colours, outfit, set and music) that’s often attempted - except she nails it, But a cartoon it most definitely is not. Things kick off as a LOL, loving romantic mishap comedy as our sophisticated veneer (yet crucially likeable) heroine goes on a fault finding mission for... Pretty much everything, via gal pal “share all” calls with Eve (from the first date in a park onwards, just struggle not to grin), and relaxation flashbacks to calm down (they met on a silent retreat). Eventually though she realises she’s fallen for Pat just as surely as her creator Vladi has hooked her audience. Then things start to get revealed and realised – and at this point it becomes a classic case of rave about the show, but absolutely don’t spoil the “What Happens Next”. You’ll just have to see ‘The Problem With Pat’ – and that is no problem in the slightest. “The Connoisseur: A Prologue” was a terrific showcase for Maroussia Vladi as a writer, dancer, singer and performer across genre from comedy to drama. ‘Pat’ is told with comedy, clever, confident storytelling, and terrific physical acting. In both story and performance moments, Vladi is able to say a lot with small moments and gestures, while leaving other things tantalisingly “tell us more”. Wonderful stuff, absolutely recommended.

And that's a wrap! Thank you to all of my dear, dear friends who came to hear this story told. I miss 'Mia' already. Every time the run of a show is over it feels like a break up ... but I hope to get back together with Mia before to long, if only to sport the wig and dial the telephone once more. Also, a HUGE shout out to Anthony Kouvelis who was the most amazing sound and lighting technician the theatre world has ever seen. We couldn't have done it without you. Love 'Mia' & Myself 😍🥰😘
