'Salon des Refusés 2026' comprises of 36 portraits and 20 landscapes that were selected for quality, diversity, humour and experimentation, and examine a wide range of contemporary art practices. Jacqueline Hennessy's work, 'Eliza', draws on the language of photography while quietly unsettling its claim to fully capture the subject. The figure emerges through thin layers of raw umber, at once precise and dissolving. Eliza’s gaze too slips beyond the viewer, withholding direct exchange. What remains is a partial presence – felt, but never fully secured. Discover more exceptional portraiture by Australian artists at Salon des Refusés.
