OSCA - Open Space Contemporary Arts is an arts organisation based on Kaurna land, South Australia.

OSCA creates projects that explore new models of participation and cultural practice in a diversity of city, urban and regional contexts. We work with a diversity of emerging and established artists and non-artists from all cultures on ambitious projects that have been presented locally, nationally, and Internationally. We acknowledge we work and create on Kaurna land - Always was, Always will be.

Tracks of the Unseen - screening this weekend

Join us for an afternoon of First-Nation’s science featuring a Welcome and Smoking ceremony from Taikurtinna, The Fish Net Dance with an introduction by Jamie Goldsmith, a screening of Track of the Unseen with an introduction by Narungga film maker Jay Milera, and scientists working with Narungga people on the Reef Restoration Project. This event is Supported by the SA National Science Week Committee.

Free event this Friday - Join South Australia based artists Cynthia Schwertsik and Paul Gazzola (OSCA AD) as they discuss creative collaboration with communities and approaches to socially engaged research and art projects.

This free lunchtime talk is perfect for artists, arts workers and arts interested audiences looking to understand two artists’ approach to participatory arts practice. Cynthia and Paul will focus on how these ideas are present in their current research and ART POD residency, ‘What’s the thing inside a thing...’.

Audiences can participate in ‘What’s the thing inside a thing...’ by bringing an object, idea, or question to be disassembled in collaboration with the artists before the talk from 10:30am.

TOMORROW - Open Talks: Building Sustainable Creative Practice

Join us for an engaging panel discussion exploring what it takes to build a sustainable creative arts practice.

2pm-4pm at Good Bank Gallery McLaren Vale

Featuring representatives from South Australia’s leading galleries: Hugo Michell Gallery, The Little Machine, Sauerbier House, Post Office Projects (POP) and Nexus Arts and Good Bank Gallery

This discussion brings together a range of perspectives across the contemporary arts sector. From artist-run initiatives and community-focused arts spaces to commercial galleries, studio development programs and artist residencies, the panel will explore the different models that support contemporary artists and the opportunities available at various stages of practice.

Designed for artists at all career stages, this session encourages open conversation, questions and the sharing of practical knowledge to help support a thriving and sustainable creative and contemporary arts career.

Free Weaving Workshop - tomorrow!

To celebrate NAIDOC week, we are opening up 5 additional spots at each of our sold out Kingston Weaving workshops tomorrow at Fabrik Arts and Heritage , Lobethal. You’ll learn how to weave and contribute pieces to a large animal totem.

Workshops are held 11am-1pm and 2-4pm. If you’re interested in a free place, please send us a message.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

GOOD BANK INAUGURAL A3 EXHIBITION LAUNCH - 40+ artists / 80+ artworks

This exhibition is part of a recent initiative for local artists by Good Bank Gallery in partnership with OSCA - that has seen the delivery of 2 x grant writing workshops, upcoming talks (25th July) and this exhibition.

Grant writing workshop @ Good Bank

Are you interested in learning how to enhance and develop your skills in writing funding applications? Want to gain a range of insights and leave with a practical toolkit to draw from? This 2-hour grant writing workshop will offer participants practical information in how to frame your ideas and give you the best chance at success.

Paul Gazzola, Artistic Director of OSCA – Open Space Contemporary Arts will share his extensive experience in applying for funding as well as outlining some clear and direct ways in which he seeks to develop a successful convincing argument in the application process.

Upcoming event: Exposure by Branch Nebula

Tarps down, goggles on and gloves off. Two women in their 50s bathe in deep pits of domestic detritus to investigate the body’s relationship to systems of power.
Slicked with oil and lit by microwave buzz, Exposure is an ugly-beautiful piece by acclaimed performance artists, Latai Taumoepeau and Mirabelle Wouters, who upend endless struggles of everyday expectation.

Steel bedframes dangle and scrape. Toxins ooze and whitegoods clank. In the world of Exposure, the ageing female body is lain bare as a site of force and resilience as the duo submit themselves to an increasingly surreal states of material force and environmental instability.

First developed at Adhocracy 2024, Vitalstatistix is thrilled to present the Adelaide premiere of this incredible work, straight after their runs in Melbourne at RISING 2026 (as part of the inaugural Australian Dance Biennale), and Sydney at PACT Theatre.

NAIDOC WEEK KINGSTON WEAVING SESSIONS

Come along to .arts during NAIDOC week in July to learn traditional weaving techniques by First Nations artists of the Southeast - Suzy, Sonya and Sarah Smith. Have a yarn and find out about the Kingston Weaving project - an ongoing state-wide sculpture project by the artists and collaborators Deb Twining and Tony Hannan.

Focusing on the cultural representation of animal totems in connection to the local environment, a series of large-scale community created sculptures will premiere in Kingston, Southeast, SA as part of the 2026 Nature Festival.

During the workshop Suzy, Sonya and Sarah will show you how to weave the pieces that will become the animal totem exterior cladding. This is a great opportunity to get involved and be part of this extraordinary project of enduring cultural significance as it begins to take shape.

You can now donate to Kingston Weaving via Give SA!

Kingston Weaving is a First Nations led project by Southeast artists Sonya, Sarah and Suzy Smith, developed with Open Space Contemporary Arts (OSCA). Through weaving, storytelling and sculpture, it explores the return of water to the Kingston region and its significance for community, culture and Country.

In the lead-up to the 2026 Nature Festival, we’re planning free weaving workshops across South Australia. Open to all, these sessions invite people to learn traditional techniques while contributing to a large-scale public artwork.

Each piece created will form part of a striking outdoor installation, unveiled at a two-day event at Pioneer Park in Kingston. This will be a moment for the community to come together and experience the work, and to recognise the shared effort behind it.

At its heart, Kingston Weaving is about connection. It brings people together, shares First Nations knowledge, and deepens our understanding of the environment and Country.

We’re inviting you to be part of this. A donation of any size will directly support the artists, community workshops and the final installation event.
