Yesterday, our Matilda Jr cast had the exciting opportunity to welcome local, state and federal representatives to rehearsals, sharing a special showcase of the hard work, talent and enthusiasm that is bringing our production of Matilda Jr to life.

Despite a busy afternoon and when many Australians were watching the Socceroos, we were honoured to welcome Julian Leeser MP, Federal Member for Berowra, Alister Henskens MP SC MP, Member for Wahroonga, and Warren Waddell, Mayor of Hornsby Shire to our rehearsals of our production of Roald Dahl's Matilda Jr the Musical.

As part of our commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for young people passionate about musical theatre and the performing arts, our team was delighted to arrange for our cast to meet our special guests and showcase some of the work they have been preparing for the stage.

One particularly inspiring moment came when Mr Leeser asked our cast who would like to pursue a career in musical theatre. The overwhelming majority of hands shot up - a wonderful reminder of the dreams, ambition and talent that exist within this generation of young performers.

We are incredibly proud to provide an opportunity that not only develops performance skills, but also nurtures confidence, creativity, teamwork and aspiration. Visits like this are an important opportunity for community leaders to see first hand the joy, educational benefits and personal growth that arts programs create for young people.

We thank Julian, Alister and Warren and their associates for taking the time to attend, support our students, and witness the passion and dedication on display in our rehearsal room. Their interest and encouragement help reinforce the importance of investing in opportunities that allow young people to explore their talents and pursue their ambitions in the performing arts.

Our cast continues to work hard as we count down to opening night, and we can't wait to share the magic of Matilda Jr with our community.

We’re so excited to share that our fearless leader Abbey has been nominated in TWO categories at the 7NEWS Young Achiever Awards NSW & ACT ✨

With two university degrees, a lifelong journey in performing arts and years spent both on stage and in the studio, Abbey’s career has evolved in so many exciting ways over the years. From professional performer, to educator, to company director, and now director and producer of a junior musical production! It’s been a pretty wild (and busy) ride.

On a personal note, being recognised through the 7News Young Achiever Awards is incredibly special to me. What started as a passion for performing has grown into almost 8 amazing years of BMT, and I’m so proud of the community we’ve built along the way.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me, believed in BMT and trusted me to be part of your young performers’ journeys.🩷💙🤍

🌟 ANOTHER GREAT RESULT FOR BMT! 🌟

Let’s hear it for Matt!! 👏👏👏

So proud of Matt tonight at the Sydney Eisteddfod, receiving a Highly Commended in the 11 Years Contemporary Song section! 👏🎤

This follows on from an incredible result last week in the 11 Years Musical Theatre section, where our BMT students achieved a Highly Commended, 3rd Place and 1st Place with Matt among those placing. What a wonderful reflection of the versatility and adaptability our students continue to develop through their training at BMT.

One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing young performers learn how to move between styles and genres with confidence. From musical theatre to contemporary performance while still remaining authentic storytellers and connected performers.

Live performance also teaches lessons that go far beyond singing. No performance is ever completely perfect. From nerves to technical difficulties, there are always moments that test a performer’s focus and confidence. A huge part of professionalism is learning how to stay present, keep going and remain committed to the performance regardless of those moments. That resilience and composure at such a young age is incredibly valuable, and something we place a strong focus on in our training at BMT.

Matt, you represented yourself and BMT beautifully this week. Congratulations on another fantastic result and on the maturity, consistency and professionalism you continue to show as a performer. 🌟

🩷PROUD TEACHER MOMENT!🩷

Tonight at the Sydney Eisteddfod, 3 of our wonderful students Mahli, Matt and Mia represented BMT in the incredibly competitive 11 Years Musical Theatre Solo section.

We are so proud to celebrate their outstanding achievements tonight - Mahli received a Highly Commended, Matt placed 3rd, and Mia was awarded 1st place! To have 3 BMT students recognised amongst the top performers in such a large and strong section is something we are incredibly proud of. 🌟

What we loved most about the adjudicator’s comments tonight was the recognition of qualities we value at BMT. The emphasis placed on not only healthy vocal technique but a true understanding of the musical theatre genre. Musical theatre is storytelling. It is characterisation, emotional connection, authenticity, stagecraft and the ability to communicate truthfully through performance. What our students showed tonight was skilled performance supported by their growing technique and training.

While results are never the focus at BMT, opportunities like this allow our students to showcase their abilities, gain stage experience and continue to grow as performers. It is always rewarding when hard work and quality training are recognised.

A huge congratulations as well to every performer who stepped onto the stage tonight. It takes enormous bravery, courage and vulnerability especially at such a young age. 😊

We could not be prouder of Mahli, Matt and Mia for the way they represented BMT tonight - with confidence, professionalism and true musical theatre craft. 🤗🩷

And thank you to the wonderful parents who continue to support our young performers 🥰

(P.S. please ignore the absolutely drowned Abbey in the photos…😂 Nothing says “committed teacher” quite like driving straight from teaching for 40 minutes through torrential rain just to make it in time to watch your students perform 😜)
