So. About that screen print workshop. 😂

Let's just say I grabbed the wrong solvent and the screens were having absolutely none of it.

Did we panic? Briefly.
Did we pivot? Absolutely. We pulled out every other screen I had on hand and just... played. And honestly? It turned into one of the most fun sessions we've had even though I was rather stressed haha.

Everyone was an absolute legend about it - genuinely the best group of humans. I've since followed up to make their screens properly so the story has a happy ending.

But it was a pretty perfect real-life reminder of why Play Not Perfection isn't just a slogan on my wall. Sometimes things go sideways and you just roll with it and something unexpected and good happens instead.

Thanks for being so wonderful about it, you lot. You know who you are. 💚

Saturday at the studio 🎨🍕

We’re kicking things off with a creative session this morning, then later it’s time for our monthly Print + Pizza lunch!

A little making, a little experimenting, a bit of pizza and a few drinks… pretty much my idea of a good Saturday. 😆

Today’s creative fun: GEL PRINTS! 🎨✨

The studio is definitely ready for a day of making. 💛

This one stops me every time I read it. 🌿

John Cleese (if you havent noticed I'm a big fan) spent a lot of time thinking and talking about creativity - and his conclusion wasn't that some people have it and some don't. It was that creativity is something you do, not something you are.

It's a mode you switch into. A space you create. A permission you give yourself to play around without needing it to go anywhere useful immediately.

The people who seem naturally creative aren't necessarily more talented - they've just gotten better at getting into that mode. Often because nobody told them they couldn't, or because they stopped caring whether they could.

You can get there too. It just takes practice - and a willingness to make something a bit rubbish first.

Play not perfection — always 🎨

A little botanical chaos is about to happen in the studio tonight 🌿😂

Getting everything ready for tonight’s Botanical Printing & Mark Making workshop - botanicals, paper and a whole lot of experimenting!

Can’t wait to see what gets made. 🎨✨

A friend sent me this and I thought… well, this is pretty damn relevant to what happens in my little studio!

It talks about the importance of community, connection, learning new things and staying curious - and how beneficial creative activities and art classes can be.

So apparently all those hours spent making stuff, trying something new, having a laugh and hanging out with other people aren't just fun… they're actually good for us! 🎨❤️

Who knew I was running an anti-ageing program all along? 😂

Keep making. Keep learning. Keep connecting. Keep having fun.

Brené Brown researches vulnerability and shame for a living - and one of the things she keeps coming back to is that you cannot be creative without being willing to be a bit rubbish at something first. 🌿

Creativity requires showing up when you can't guarantee the outcome. Making something and not knowing if it'll work. Putting it out into the world anyway.

That takes courage. More than most people realise.

Which is why "I'm not creative" so often really means "I'm scared of doing something badly in front of other people." And that is completely understandable. But it's also a reason to try, not a reason to stay home.

This week has been one of the most creatively alive weeks I've had in this studio — watching people walk in unsure and walk out with something they made with their own hands, genuinely surprised by themselves.

That's the whole thing right there. That's why we do this. 🎨

And just like that… it’s the last day of Noosa Open Studios! 🥹🎨

What a wonderful, wild mix of emotions it has been - from some total highs, to chaotic workshops, unexpected hiccups, lots of laughs, and meeting so many genuinely wonderful people along the way.

I’m incredibly grateful to every single person who has taken the time to visit my little studio, have a chat, look at my work, join a workshop, buy something, or simply spend a little time with me and my little small business. ❤️

Was everything as perfect as I wanted it to be?
Nope. 😂

But one of the mottos I’m always banging on about is “play, not perfection” - and I think this week has been a pretty good reminder to live by it myself.

So today is one last chance to come and have a wander around, I’ll be here from 10am–4pm.

And after Open Studios finishes, if you’ve been thinking about coming along to a creative session, trying a workshop, having a play in the studio or even getting together a private group, please get in touch. 🎨✨

Thank you, Noosa. It’s been a ride. 💛

For messy minds & creative souls. 💥🎨

Creative Chaos is my little notebook for getting ideas down, making a mess and generally letting your brain do its thing.

It’s available here at the studio, along with plenty of other things I’ve made.

I’m here 10am–4pm today and every day during Noosa Open Studios — come have a look!

Somewhere along the way we decided that enjoyment had to be earned by competence. 🌿

That you should only paint if you paint well. Only sing if you can hold a note. Only dance if you've had lessons.

What a joyless rule that is.

Making things - painting, printing, drawing, stitching - doesn't have to produce a masterpiece to be worth doing. The doing IS the point. The hour away from your phone. The satisfaction of a mark you made with your hands. The surprise of something turning out better than you expected, or wonderfully, gloriously worse.

This is what Noosa Open Studios is about for me. Not showing off finished work - opening the door and saying come in, have a go, see what happens.

No experience required. Genuinely. 🎨

Play not perfection — always
