Merv Igoe ❤️ .... Your spirit lives on big time 🙏 knowingly and unknowingly to many, the mystery characters you created (possibly overgrown and hidden) have real meaning.

Merv often left a legacy at the places where he dutifully worked his craft. He did have a real sense of serving his community in his provision of the basics to many of us.

Merv was indeed person of strong personality who valued and shared his own point of view.

Over the years, through hard work, he earned the right of respect.

He was not perfect and he shared that also.

There is no doubt that many who have walked this area over thousands of years have reached "Legend" status in the eyes of others. It would be incredible if everyone from here could get to know a little more about them all.

Every one here is indeed a legend and it is about time we all recognised that and saw that as being the equality we can all share.

Would it not be amazing to see the new(?) walking trail in Nimbin become the "Land of Legends" where personal memorabilia can be displayed and stories can be told of anyone that has passed by here during their life on earth.

I wonder how many others share the view that hearing the voice of politicians (and others in power) is becoming very tiresome.

It is time to believe in ourselves to serve and care for each other.

Rainbow Retreat will not be providing accommodation in the foreseeable future, we are thinking about what options we may have looking forward. Right now we would like to say a big "Thank You" to all that have enjoyed our place over the past 25+ years and contributed to the great life and times we have enjoyed here. We at Rainbow Retreat knew that the Coronavirus could well be huge, we knew we could not prevent it spreading because our place was such that we could not keep it hygienic enough, certainly not to the standards required.

We also knew that with online booking we could not have any control over the masses of overseas travellers and the already known risk they were carrying.

We closed at the beginning of February to protect ourselves and to be considerate of Nimbin residents in general.

We still receive calls from people looking to book and we let them know we are closed and ask people to reconsider their need to travel to Nimbin, or anywhere, in fact. I know we really have no right to impose our views on others, but we have done it anyway to the people who have called us.

I am not sure what obligation we have to other Nimbin businesses or those travellers who have chosen to arrive in Australia during the past 2 months and want to travel amongst us at this time.

Personally, I do not want to put myself, my family and other people in Nimbin at additional and unnecessary risk right now.

There is much uncertainty about where the future will take us here at Rainbow Retreat, we are not guaranteed financially, only buoyed by the fact our overheads and our personal spending will reduce substantially because of present circumstances.

We have chosen “self-isolation”, as much as possible, along with a couple of friends.

The government and authorities have been slow in implementing effective measures (in our opinion), no need to mention recent events that we believe support this, everyone can decide for themselves.

Many Nimbin businesses, community support networks, our medical professionals and many Nimbin residents are already doing much to prepare for a worsening situation and supporting people at risk.

They should be commended and supported.

We would urge all businesses in Nimbin to consider what their business can do to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Now is not the time to encourage visits to our village.

We wish good health outcomes to all Nimbin residents and people everywhere.

At Rainbow Retreat many guests have enjoyed the opportunity to be in a relaxed and open environment to soak it all up

Bookings are now available for this great weekend, we offer 6 days/ 5 nights inclusive as this seems to be what our guests are wanting to enjoy, particularly appreciative of the opportunity to travel to Nimbin a little earlier and stay a little longer avoiding some of the traditional hold ups possibly associated with travelling in and out of Nimbin
