The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade.

Performed at an abandoned warehouse in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham, UK.

Lara Kocsis and Luke Visentin both starred in my 2024 production of Richard Foreman’s SOPHIA=(WISDOM): THE CLIFFS? The first time the play had ever been done since for its 1972 original in New York.

Lara and Luke both star in the upcoming PARADISE HOTEL at KXT on Broadway, Sydney from 4-19 December.

In Feb 2020, I was curating an exhibition in London called KATE MANHEIM: DOWNTOWN DOYENNE. It was a chance to tell Kate’s story for the first time in the UK. Sadly, after a lot of preparation, the pandemic got in the way and it never eventuated.

I’m really happy however to share that Kate Manheim has generously given me permission to incorporate her extraordinary paintings into the stage design for my production of Richard Foreman’s PARADISE HOTEL at in December.

Kate was Richard Foreman’s wife, an enduring artistic collaborator and performer in many of his productions. She is synonymous with his output.

Her paintings inhabit the same terrain as his theatre. Fractured bodies, proliferating eyes, ritual imagery and geometric systems defying easy interpretation.

The paintings Kate and I have selected will become part of the production’s slippery consciousness. A visual world of perception fractures, symbolic multiplication and where meaning is always just out of reach.

I can’t wait to finally share these remarkable works with audiences in Australia housed within Richard’s magnificent play.
