Sarah Edmondson x New Theatre 🎭

Sarah Edmondson creates gorgeous, bright, textural pieces and plays on interpretations of the digital world with hand made art.

Sarah, who is also a printmaker, hand-painted this work which adorns the front doors of the New Theatre.

Sarah has won many prizes in different art forms, and was recently awarded the Waverley Art Prize in Mixed Media for her piece Sorry for the Disruption.

The New Theatre is a performing arts asset to Sydney and Newtown. We're stoked to have collaborated with them.

The theatre was set up in 1932 with the slogan “Art is a Weapon”. Indeed it is.

New Theatre is run entirely by volunteers and welcomes all: "Our doors are open to everyone – from those looking for their start, to those who never want it to end."

Tickets for Beautiful Thing by Jonathan Harvey - a play for Sydney Gay and Le***an Mardi Gras festival - are available now.

Thea Perkins x Marlborough Hotel 🖤💛❤️

What an amazing treat to have hand-painted poster art by young Indigenous artist Thea Perkins on the streets of Newtown.

Thea's portraits have been exhibited in the Art Gallery of New South Wales' Archibald Prize and are part of this year's Sydney Festival. Her 2020 achievements also include winning the Dreaming Award for Emerging Artist from the Australia Council for the Arts.

If you haven't come across Thea Perkins yet and find her name familiar, it may be because her mother is art curator Hetti Perkins, her aunt is film director Rachel Perkins, and her grandfather is Charlie Perkins, one of Australia's most respected figures in campaigning for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We love that this poster by Thea Perkins, an artist with such longstanding family connections to Sydney, is in the window of Marly Bar, a longstanding and loved local institution.

Thank you to the wonderful Marly Bar for being a part of this amazing community collaboration to revitalise Newtown's King St with poster art.

⚡️ZAP Galaxy x C9 Chocolate & Gelato 🍧

Artist ZAP Galaxy transports us from 2020 to another world with his signature big, bold, comic book style poster.

ZAP is a street artist, painter and sculptor. Have you spotted his huge murals on the streets of Sydney?

We'd sure love to frame his poster art and hang it on our walls. 🤖🛸🚀

This piece adorned C9, a King St dessert bar serving gelato, doughnuts and other treats into the night. It covered the chairs and tables that were stacked out back to fit health restrictions and limit diners. It’s great to see this shopfront and King St coming alive again.

Big thanks to Nour at C9 for exhibiting this fun work in your window. 🙏

Molly Wagner x LJ Ho**er Newtown x Tandem Bar 🚲

“For in the end there is no us and them, no human and Other. We are them, and they are us. And all of this has happened before, and will happen again.”

Inspired by science fiction, time and intergalactic worlds, this double poster by artist Molly Wagner invites us to look at our everyday lives and local community from a new view. 📸 Garry Trinh.

When Molly began designing these posters for the windows of 127 King St, it was still the home of Tandem bar. Sadly, this damned global pandemic saw our friends at Tandem close their doors and hand back the keys. We’re missing the welcoming space, community spirit and warm hospitality of the Tandem team ❤️

When Peter at LJ Ho**er Newtown heard of this collaboration between the New Views Poster Project and Tandem, he met us on site, unlocked the doors, and stayed with us to talk about all things Newtown, small bars and community, as we installed Molly’s work. Thank you Peter 🙏

Behind the scenes with artist Jackson Farley.

He used an entire wall of his studio to hand-paint this massive five-panel poster for the folding windows of CORRIDOR.

“This painting was originally going to be about something sad. But I made it a happy painting instead.”

These words are inscribed on the pandemic-inspired artwork.

See it on King St, snap it, share it, and tag .
