Petition against loosing public open space to housing in Newstead.

The Newstead Recreation Reserve Committee of Management (NRRCM) is strongly against the Mount Alexander Shire Council's (MASC) plan to give a 49 year peppercorn (basically free) lease of the old tennis/netball court land in Canrobert St to a community housing provider. The land will be developed, with the construction of up to 8 dwellings, between the corner of Canrobert and Hilliers St and the historic old court house.

The NRRCM would like this land left as public open space for future recreational use. Once all the private land surrounding this area is developed, public open space will be limited and once it's gone to housing it isn’t coming back.

The NRRCM is asking Council to look for alternative locations and be more thorough with its community consultation.

Please do your bit and sign the petition attached. We only have until Wednesday November 15th for submissions so please help keep MASC accountable to the whole community
