Zac Hampson workshop today! Forgot my camera 🤦

Nothing beats getting feedback from experts in their craft. Even better that Zac is a top bloke. My key takeaway is to resist my urge to dive into thick detail until after I have built the base first.. one of the basics but needed the reminder. This is why in person workshops are great. Also a new experience painting without solvents and didn't really miss a whole lot tbh.

Thanks mate for the tips and urge anyone to get amongst these workshops as Zac brings a common sense approach and cuts through a lot of the noise.

Let's get out plein air soon!

Sketching in the sky ✈️

Been away for work this week in the Pilbara. I wish I had time to paint however grabbed a lot of inspiration and reference. Thankfully some time to get a quick sketch in on the way back with my new art toolkit watercolour palettes from Senior Art Supplies Perfect this this type of travel painting. Hoping to prepare some larger pilabra paintings in the coming months.

20,000 people... and I dropped it 😭💀

Thankfully I had enough time to recover and I'm happy with the end result. This is the way of plein air painting, just as you are feeling good about the painting, nature throws you a curve ball 🤣💨🫠

Blue gum hills Plein air 🌲🌲

Had a day off work today and got out to Minmi with the Society of Artists Newcastle plein air group. A great few hours immersed in the landscape, listening to the birds and thankfully no mozzies. Good practice for tomorrow at the 5lands walk / art in the open event.

Snuck in a quick 1hr plein air Sunday sunset session. Hard to paint fast and you have to just lock in a moment and go for it. Happy with the result and fits nicely in a frame I picked up at an op shop recently. Next time I'll take the camera and document things a bit more. Today, I just needed a painting session accompanied with a New world pale ale 👍🍺🖌️

Loved working on this custom piece of Liverpool Hut in NZ. The reference was captured firsthand by the client during a recent hiking trip. I was glad to be able to capture this moment, which will make him remember all of the little details every time he walks past.
