Christ Church Camerata

Christ Church Camerata Newcastle’s Christ Church Camerata is a string chamber orchestra.

The Camerata performs an annual subscription series in the Cathedral, chamber music concerts at a variety of venues, and is the resident orchestra for services at Christ Church Cathedral.

25/04/2026

Join members of the Camerata tomorrow at Evensong with Madeleine Easton, at Christ Church Cathedral - 6pm!

Earlier in the day, the Camerata will have the opportunity to work with Madeleine on historically informed performance, playing a Bach orchestral suite and pieces with the choir, including Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring and Tallis's Nunc Dimittis. This is a fantastic professional development opportunity for players, culminating in the beauty of the Evensong service.

We hope to see you there!

A special Camerata event.*

MOZART Divertimento in F
BEETHOVEN Romance in F
STRAUSS The Blue Danube
MAHLER Adagietto from Symphony No.5
HAYDN 'Farewell' Symphony

Camerata with Candles combines shimmering candlelight in spectacular Christ Church Cathedral with brilliant works from one of the world’s most musical cities. From
Mozart to Mahler via Beethoven and Strauss, we finish with Haydn’s inspired message to his boss. It was 1772 and Prince Esterhazy’s court was keen to get home after an unreasonably long summer holiday. A modern workforce might head to the industrial court - Haydn simply wrote one of his finest symphonies, finishing the work with a clear message that was heeded by the boss, who packed up the court and returned home within the week!

*This concert is not included in our subscription series, but subscribers are entitled to a 10% discount on all tickets.

🎻 String workshop wrap up —

Last Sunday, we had 18 participants aged 10-56 on violin, viola, cello and bass, coming from Maitland, Singleton, Glendale, Muswellbrook and everywhere in between!

Camerata conductor David Banney and string principals Celine St George, Jennifer Kershaw, Gavin Clark and Rosemary Ponnekanti workshopped Handel, folksongs, sea shanties and even Pirates of the Caribbean music side-by-side with participants, giving a fun informal concert in the Art Express exhibition at Maitland Regional Art Gallery.

Big thanks to MRAG for partnering, and Create NSW for funding support.
