We focus on building solid foundations, developing real skills, and guiding them to play with expression and confidence. 💕

With patience, encouragement, and tailored teaching, we help every student enjoy music and grow at their own pace. 🌟

Almost every parent has seen this happen at some stage…

A mistake happens.
Restart.
Another mistake.
Restart again.

Over time, frustration builds — and sometimes it’s not because students need more practice.

It’s because they’re practising in a way that creates frustration.

One small change can completely shift the experience.

Fix the problem, not the whole song

THIS IS A BIG ONE.

If you’ve taught, learned, or watched someone learn piano… you’ve seen this at some stage.

The mistake.
The frustration.
Then suddenly…

“I GIVE UP.”

After years of teaching, I’ve noticed students rarely quit slowly. Most of the time, it’s not a talent problem at all.

Thank you to one of our lovely studio families for sharing this with me 😊

Thought I’d pass it on in case anyone in our music community might be interested. A wonderful fundraising concert supporting John Hunter Children’s Hospital Cancer Research.

Always lovely to see music used to bring people together and support such an important cause ❤️

Details below.

Feeling so grateful today.Sometimes I stop and think about how lucky I am to be doing what I truly love every day — teaching piano, watching my students grow, and sharing music with so many wonderful families. 🎹

Seeing students gain confidence, improve little by little, and smile when they achieve something they once thought was impossible… that feeling never gets old.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey with us at Lillian’s Piano Studio. ❤️

There’s something powerful about this stage of learning

Practising with backing music at home isn’t just “playing along” — it’s where students start developing real timing, listening skills, and musical confidence.

Instead of relying on the teacher, they begin to feel the pulse, stay steady, and take ownership of their playing.

This is how practice turns into real musicianship.

Consistency at home → confidence in lessons → progress you can actually hear.

Can you spot the finger problem?

Many beginners try to fix this by simply practising more.
But practice alone won’t fix a technical issue like this.

In this lesson we first corrected the hand shape and finger position, and suddenly the fingers could move much more naturally.

Good technique makes everything easier later.

Did you notice the difference between the first and last clip?

Just uploaded another episode.

Many students think they’re practising, but they’re actually just playing the piece from the beginning to the end.

In this episode I talk about the difference between playing and practising, and why this habit makes a big difference to progress.

Episode 10 — Playing vs Practising

25/03/2026

Practice alone doesn’t fix bad technique.

In this lesson we worked on wrist control to help the student play with better tone and control when crossing hands.

Small change, big difference.

Just uploaded another podcast episode.

A lot of students don’t get stuck because the piece is hard — they get stuck because they don’t know what to do when they make a mistake.

In this episode I talk about a simple method I teach my students to fix problems properly during practice.
