Saturating a background with pencil is harder than it looks! 😢

I know why most artists choose a white background, but I just love the outcome too much.

'Protea in Gold' and 'Banksia in Mauve' make a fine pair indeed!

These prints are A2 sizes and have been framed in oak.

An oak frame is always a good choice when you aren't sure what colour to frame your print in πŸ˜‰.

Just keep adding layers of colour and detail until I'm okay with it...because I'm never satisfied.

I'm not sure what that means πŸ€”

Zooming in and developing each tendril's graduation of colour.

They need to have a seamless relationship with the background yet still be contrasting.

It's a delicate balance.

I don't think I'm quite finished illustrating Banksia pods just yet.

It's a hard subject to let go of when you keep finding more and more amazing specimens everywhere.

I organise the pencils and brushes I am using for each artwork into containers that would otherwise be thrown into the recycle bin. I prefer clear storage so when I inevitably wear the pencil down to a nub it doesnt get lost at the bottom!

Note to self: I need to sharpen my sharpeners.
